Advanced Nursing Education Fund in Kenya



Amref, with funding from Johnson and Johnson (J&J) Foundation, have partnered with the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to set up the Advanced Nursing Education Fund. The Fund focuses on supporting and strengthening frontline health workers, through among other strategies training and education.

It aims to bridge gaps in the training of Nurses and Midwives at the specialization level and targets the in-service health workers specializing in all medical courses.

Advanced Nursing Education Fund in Kenya - Eligibility/Target Group

  • For salaried nurses and midwives working in HELB compliant organizations and admitted for Higher Diploma/Specialization medical courses in recognized medical training institutions based in Kenya. HELB compliant organizations should be listed on the employer’s portal and should be compliant to HELB Act.

    Maximum Award

  • Maximum loan to be awarded is Ksh.0.5M subject to applicant’s pay slip and maximum fee at the institution of study. Applications and disbursements to be done annually, top ups to be done as per student’s progression and good repayment record.

    Advanced Nursing Education Fund in Kenya - Requirements

    • Fully filled application form

    • Copy of National Identity Card

    • Copies of National Identity Cards for 2 salaried guarantors (may be working in different organizations)

    • 3 copies of recent pay slips (certified by the employer) – mandatory statutory third rule to apply

    • Copy of
    admission letter from Institution of study

    Eligible Training Institutions

    • Kenya Medical Training College

    • Faith Based training institutions

    • Private Medical Training Institutions

    Coverage

    To cover tuition fee only. Loan to be disbursed directly to institution of study Loan

    Maturity Date

  • 1 month after disbursement of funds

    Repayment Period

    Maximum of 60 months, with the option of choosing a lower repayment period and a minimum monthly repayment amount of Kshs.1,500.00

    Application Period

  • 1st September 2022 to 30th June 2023

    Product Process

  • Applicant to apply on website and print application form

  • Applicant to sign and submit scanned application form and mandatory document to jielimishe@helb.co.ke

  • HELB to acknowledge receipt of application form through email within 24 hours

  • Upon approval, funds to be disbursed to institution of study within 14 days

  • HELB to send repayment bill to loanee’s employer and loanee immediately upon disbursement
