  • Teams in the field combat hunger on 4 fronts: Nutrition and Health, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and Mental Health and Care Practices (MHCP). We are currently looking for WASH Officer

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Objective 1: Participate in identifying beneficiaries of COVID-19 project:

    Activities

  • Actively participate in screening and targeting of beneficiaries as per selection parameters

  • Contribute in organizing, coordination, planning and conducting surveys and assessments

  • Plan & involve in social mobilization and hygiene promotion activities on COVID-19 prevention

  • Identify, plan and ensure the distribution of WASH NFIs’ to targeted beneficiaries and implementing Post distribution Monitoring of NFIs

  • Organize and ensure documentation of NFI distributions, hygiene promotion activities & assessments and capacity building activities

    Objective 2: Plan and implement WASH activities of the hygiene promotion project:

    Activities

  • Develop action plans with milestones and ensure execution of project activities defined by program document

  • Embed sustainability dimensions of the project including social and gender inclusion, environmental and economic aspects into project life cycle

  • Develop and maintain close working relationship with project team, signatory partners and other key stakeholders involved in public health activities including COVID-19 prevention and researches

  • Ensure activities integration among all program components and coordinate within the team including support staffs (Log, HR, Finance, etc.) and ascertain gaps are filled in their absence

  • Manage communications with project staffs & stakeholders on project activities, progress, resources use and initiate corrective action where necessary

  • Monitor and evaluate performance of service providers, manage resources & review product quality, report substandard items and ensure products excellence prior delivery to the project

  • Manage project budgets, forecast, cash flow and obligations to ensure that deliverables are met and payments to service providers and personnel effected timely

  • Participate in COVID-19 related meetings on preparedness strategy, coordination, technical working groups, sector clusters, etc. provide summary notes and feedbacks to line manager and project staffs

  • Contribute to development of IEC materials based on local situation and participate in dissemination of appropriate hygiene educational materials

  • In coordination with the line manager & partner’s health focal staffs, contribute for need assessment towards the design and implementation of COVID-19-related health protocols and procedures

  • Manage regular hygiene promotion and COVID-19 preparedness activities with the project staffs to meet the project objectives within budget and allotted timeframe

  • Regularly monitor response activities, evaluating progress through outputs and impacts as well as assess gaps and identify needs timely as well as report for those beyond resources

  • Responsible for ensuring project implementation is according to Action Against Hunger, donor, local and international guidelines

  • Contribute towards setting objectives of emergency COVID-19-related health/WASH assessments and interventions, monitoring progress, etc.

  • Improve the quality of the project, including assessments, monitoring and evaluation,
    implementation of Core Humanitarian Standards and protection mainstreaming

  • Regularly collect information and data from HCs, HPs, Treatment and Quarantine centers regularly & submit project updates periodically and reports activities progress to line manager and Base office

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to applicable timeframes and formats.

  • Collect technical data regularly, evaluate real time circumstances and recommend innovative ideas for sounding decision-making in resolving related problem

  • Actively involve in responding to emergency or outbreaks, monitoring, supervising teams, supportive training provision, reporting, technical experience in global health and/or outbreak emergencies highly desired.

    Objective 3: Participate in the implication of beneficiary communities in the project:

    Activities

  • Coordinate hygiene activities and sensitize local partners and beneficiaries on public health risk factors, transmission channels, symptoms and prevention measures as per local and international guidelines

  • Identify the community’s misconception opinions on public health related disease including COVID-19 and promote health education

  • Organize information meetings with implementing team and beneficiaries to develop their knowledge through transferring the necessary information

  • Organize a system for beneficiary’s Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) about the program service and staff conduct

    Objective 4: Manage the project team and partner staffs:

    Activities

  • Identify gaps and training needs of partner’s pertinent staff on various aspects of public health disease preparedness, IPC, COVID-19, etc. in line with globally established SOPs

  • Organize the team’s work, optimize the distribution of tasks according to the members’ potentials and make sure public health promotional messages clearly conveyed to the community

  • Fully contribute to enrich team-working spirit as well as health security of project staffs pursuant to local and international health protocols and procedures

  • Reflect in action the values & working principles of Action Against Hunger with project team, partners staff, beneficiaries and external contacts

  • Develop, compile & maintain information flows related to public health disease including COVID-19 to project staffs, signatory partners and other stakeholders as per the organization procedures

    Job Requirements

    Educational Qualifications and Skills Required:

    Educational/Professional Background

  • Degree in Public health, Environmental health, Nursing & training experience or related field with 5 years of relevant experience preferably with an NGO setting

    Required Competence & Skills

  • Ability to analyse, synthesize, prioritize multiple tasks and setting clear objectives for staff

  • Good organizational skills

  • Capacity to manage team

  • Communications skills

  • Relational qualities

  • Flexibility

  • Dynamism

  • Creativity

  • Knowledge of public health (on communicable diseases)

  • Knowledge of organizing surveys using conventional methods, etc.

    Language

  • Fluent in written and spoken of English and Oromifa language is mandatory
