As a registered charity, founded in 1979, Action Against Hunger operates in 45+ countries. The international network of Action Against Hunger is represented in France, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, USA and India.

Teams in the field combat hunger on 4 fronts: Nutrition and Health, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and Mental Health and Care Practices (MHCP).

For our Nutrition department in Gerawa, we are currently looking for the following professional:

Health and Nutrition Officer

General Assignment:

Objective 1: Develop the capacity of the Government Health staff working in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT sites and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services,

Activities :

  • Organise on-the-job training courses and support of health staff working in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT team and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services based on an updated training needs assessment,

  • Support development of work planning for each temporary IDP clinic/MHNT sites and existing health facilities providing Primary health care and emergency nutrition interventions,

  • Support government health staff working in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT team and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services on the implementation of national PHC and IMAM protocols and identify areas of improvement,

  • Organize regularly supportive supervision and on-job monitoring meetings of government staffs working at temporary IDP clinics, MHNT team and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services and report the outcome to health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Organize refresher training for the health staff working in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT team and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services on implementation of PHC and emergency nutrition protocols according to identified areas of improvement,

  • Ensure good coordination and collaboration with the HWs and HEWs working in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT sites and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services,

  • If there is a problem in temporary IDP clinics, MHNT sites and existing health facilities providing PHC and emergency nutrition services, find out what is wrong and find a solution or else report to AAH health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Plan and report on training sessions: on-the-job trainings, refresher trainings.

    Objective 2: Support Government Health and nutrition staff to manage and supervise Community mobilization, Detection, increase health seeking behaviour and Referral activities for PHC and emergency nutrition intervention at temporary IDP clinics/MHNT team sites and existing health facilities,

    Activities:

  • Follow the availability and the proper use of IEC material (respect national standards, local language etc.) related to IYCF-E and nutrition and health, protection and others,

  • Ensure the availability of detection, referral slips, registration books and reporting pads at temporary IDP clinics, MHNT sites and existing health facilities level,

  • Ensure that there is curative and preventive PHC and emergency nutrition services available at temporary IDPs clinics/MHNT sites and health facilities,

  • Promote strong linkages and referral and cases enrolment between the IDP sites with the nearby health facilities for emergency nutrition services and for other existing health programs,

  • Sensitize and conduct on-job training and coaching of IDP representatives, Heath/women development armies, communities volunteers, traditional and religious leaders and healers on PHC for IDP communities and emergency nutrition services at existing health facilities based on the national protocol,

  • Follow the consumption and request report of essential drug, nutrition medication and products and supplies,

  • In case of difficulty and shortage of drug, nutrition products and supplies, identify the problems and find solutions or refer to the health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Compile/assist and submit weekly/monthly report from temporary IDP clinics/MHNT team sites and from existing health facilities and
    analysing the statistics reports for quality and evidence-based decision and ensure that such periodic reports are sent to Government office in a timely manner;

    Objective 3: Supervise the management of health and nutrition drug, nutrition supplies (including essential drug kit, therapeutic and supplementary food (F75/F100, RUTF, RUSF, CSB ++), medicines and medical and anthropometric equipment),

    Activities:

  • Follow the availability of health and nutrition inputs, including essential drug kits and nutrition products from WHO/UNICEF/WFP and ensure proper use of them in temporary IDP clinics/MHNT team and existing health facilities,

  • Support the health staff in establishing and maintaining efficient supply chain management of essential drug kit, nutrition products and supplies for PHC and emergency nutrition services,

  • Support the government staff in the implementation of Integrated Pharmaceutical Logistic System (IPLS),

  • Collect, check and complete the PHC and emergency nutrition orders before have them validated by the health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Check the coherence of the state of PHC and emergency nutrition services stocks with the orders,

  • Check and ensure that the PHC and emergency nutrition medicines, the therapeutic food and RUTF and are delivered on time,

  • Take delivery of the orders from temporary IDP clinics/MHT sites and existing health facilities,

  • Consolidate the monthly consumption report,

  • Support government health staffs on implementation of BIN cards, Stock cards in temporary clinics, MHNT sites and existing health facilities,

    Objective 4: Reporting activities

    Activities

  • Produce and submit daily/weekly/monthly report from temporary IDP clinics/MHNT sites and existing health facilities on PHC and emergency nutrition activities,

  • Reporting about your activities, identified problems and proposed solutions to health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Contribute to the elaboration of weekly/monthly reports (narrative and quantitative)

  • Ensure data quality of collected from temporary IDP clinics/MHNT sites and from existing health facilities,

  • Participate in filling available databases as requested,

  • Conduct activities as requested by the Health and nutrition supervisor,

  • Ensure proper recording of the information related to referral activities to/from temporary clinic/MHNT sites and to HC/HP for emergency nutrition services, including SC, OTP, TSFP and PHC at IDP clinics,

  • Update the health and nutrition supervisor and the health and nutrition PM on the status of the program and performance of the staff,

  • Report to the health and nutrition supervisor any problem encountered during the implementation of the project

    Job Requirements

    Educational background / Level of studies:

  • Diploma or equivalent in health science related field of study, including Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery and minimum 4 years professional experience in providing primary health care at health facilities, AND implementing/monitoring emergency nutrition interventions of SC, OTP, and TSFP at hospital, HC and HP level.

    Required skills:

  • Experience of providing IMNCI/ICCM, PHC at Health facilities (Hospitals/HC) and experience of providing emergency nutrition intervention at SC, OTP and SFP,

  • Patience, good relations with people,

  • Good capacity to work in a team, capacity to manage priorities,

  • Capacity to share knowledge and train colleagues,

  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours,

  • Have the ability to cope with stressful situations, good organizational and interpersonal skills,

  • Good knowledge in PHC, Mobile health and nutrition implementation/outreach activities, IMAM protocol and computer skills in Microsoft Excel / Word. English (fluent) and Oromifa Language (fluent).
