Job Description

As a registered charity, founded in 1979, Action Against Hunger operates in 45+ countries. The international network of Action Against Hunger is represented in France, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, USA and India.

Teams in the field combat hunger on 4 fronts: Nutrition and Health, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and Mental Health and Care Practices (MHCP).

For our Operations Mental Health, Care Practices, Gender and Protection (MHCP) in Addis Ababa, we are currently looking for the following professional:

This is an exciting position to contribute to a large-scale, psychologically-led department aimed at delivering programs to affected communities across the country.

In 2018, the Mental Health, Care Practices, Gender and Protection team in Ethiopia assisted 115,586 individuals through their programs of support to mothers and their young children that included promoting child care practices, psychosocial support and protection to reduce mortality and morbidity, and enhance the mental well-being of those living in some of the most affected areas of the country.

For our Operations Mental Health, Care Practices, Gender and Protection (MHCP) in Addis Ababa, Currently we are looking for an outstanding candidate with a psychology background who is a highly organised project manager, able to support and coordinate multi-projects, whilst helping to maintain our quality, and expand our department in response to diverse and changing needs.

Responsibility:

  • Provide support for the implementation of MHCP programs
  • Assist in building the quality and capacity of the MHCP department
  • Support the development, integration and representation of the MHCP Department
  • Maintain strict respect for confidentiality

    Reporting and monitoring
    1: Provide support for the implementation of MHCP programs

  • Provide technical program support and guidance to the field staff/PMs to ensure appropriate delivery of all MHCP programs

  • Provide support, guidance and direction ion project reporting and monitoring

  • Review and ensure reports (including donor, progress, authority, annual and interims, ToRs, training etc.) meet the necessary standards

  • Provide regular updates to the TA on project implementation as requested

  • Identify and report on problems needing support

  • Provide a monthly summary report of all programs, including progress against agreed targets

    2: Assist in building the quality and capacity of the MHCP department

  • Contribute to the recruitment process

  • Contribute to the development of staff PoAs (Plan
    of Action) and feedback for appraisals including learning need recommendations to address

  • Help develop the teams capabilities in program analysis

  • Help develop the teams management and leadership ability with the TA

  • Assist in delivering training and other capacity/skills building activities with the TA

  • Provide coaching, support and encouragement to increase the skills of staff (for instance in the multiple specialist fields, as well as program and staff management).

    3: Support the development, integration and representation of the MHCP Department

  • Contribute,support and/or lead with developing specialist technical and service development areas as requested by the TA

  • Provide feedback to the TA on the analysis of trends, patterns, issues and gaps in service

  • Assist/contribute to writing donor proposal

  • Assist in producing internal and extern reports and communication material

  • Represent the department at internal and external meetings as required

    4: Maintain strict respect for confidentiality

  • Ensure that the confidentiality of data, the property of AAH project beneficiaries, is strictly maintained.

  • Respect the confidentiality of the content of clinical interviews apart from discussions with the psychologists in charge.

    5: Reporting and monitoring

  • Assist in developing tools and processes to ensure quality is delivered and measured

  • Assist in constantly aiming to improve systems and processes to achieve optimal delivery of services

  • On field visits, provide performance and quality monitoring and auditing reports

  • Assist in ensuring gender and protection components are mainstreamed and supported

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications and Experience: -

  • Degree or higher in Psychology.
  • Humanitarian experience – clinical, intercultural or humanitarian psychology experience, Partnerships and communication skills (working with authorities and other NGOs)
  • Experience in project management and capacity building
  • Experience in team management and providing technical or clinical supervision
  • Excellent English (spoken and written). Other languages, especially Amharic an asset
    Microsoft office and computer skills (especially word and excel)
