More recently AAH-I has expanded its activities to work with other marginalized communities, including pastoralists and people living in informal urban settlements.

    Job Summary

    To perform full operation and maintenance of generators through carrying out preventive maintenance in line with user manuals, donor and AAH guidelines.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determine malfunction of electrical system by visual inspection of equipment in line with trouble shooting guidelines and product user manuals.
  • Responsible for repair, maintenance of generators and electrical accessories, overhaul engines and carry out routine servicing to the generators (ranging from 4KVA to 400 KVA units) and pumps to check for any signs of crack or loose fittings, leaks, or worn out parts in line with set standards and machine user guidelines.
  • Conduct daily inspection of generators to check battery charge status and hydrometer battery water testing, radiator water, engine lubrication oil level and lead acid testing of lubrication oil, water jacket heater operation and to keep accurate logs and records of all operating parameters.
  • Regularly change oil and filters of Engine according to Planned Preventive Maintenance schedules.
  • Carry out yearly load testing of all generators in line with generator manual guidelines.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and repair carried out on generators and electrical fittings for easy verification & reference and prepare a list of items for preventive maintenance and electrical installation in line with user manual guidelines.
  • Ensure safekeeping and safe working conditions to avoid risk that may cause injury to staff as well as damage to the property and or equipment in line with Workshop safety and security guidelines.
  • Responsible for motor rewinding of generators, alternators, and use of correct sizes/gauges/thickness of wires required for the task.
  • Prepare and keep accurate record of all activities and load testing of the generators.
  • Coordinate with the team to provide a report of the required
    level of man power and materials for particular work in all projects areas.
  • Carry out other duties as may be required by the supervisor

    Qualifications and Experience:
  • At least a Diploma in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering from a reputable institution.
  • License from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to carry out domestic and industrial wiring (Trade Test)
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in diesel and petrol engine generators, Plant operation and maintenance.
  • Experience in the trouble shooting of controls, electrical and all mechanical problems in Diesel Engine Generator Sets.
  • Knowledge of machine electronic controls for diesel and petrol engine generators.
  • Understanding schematic diagrams and lay out of all electrical aspects of generator installation, including connecting generator to the electrical systems of the residences and offices.

  • Ability to work independently and without asking for any kind of assistance from colleagues especially during emergency work.
  • Self-reliance and determination to carry out any assigned task.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • Sensitivity in handling and disposing of documents which may be important

  • Patient, understanding and of a pleasant character
  • Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office
