ACHAP Program Manager/ MNCH Lead Jobs in Uganda


Position Description:

  • ACHAP is seeking a Country Program Manager/ RMNCH lead for a community health project whose focus is addressing key drivers of child and maternal morbidity and mortality.

  • The project aims at increasing availability and utilization of high quality and high impact community interventions in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH); family planning; nutrition as well as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

  • S/he will be in charge of overall leadership of the project in the country providing leadership and management of the implementation of the project in line with the designed work plan.

  • S/he will also be the RMNCH lead to provide technical leadership and program guidance for the RMNCH component.

  • S/he will provide technical support for program design, approaches, interventions that are scientifically proven and fit country context for implementation.

  • S/he will be in charge of the country implementation plan and will work with the project officers during trips to ensure implementation is done as per work plan while aligning to MOH and other partner implantation plans.

  • S/he will also travel for project evaluation and monitoring meetings where Kenya and Uganda will have an opportunity to share best practices as well as challenges.

  • S/he will guide and promote learning and knowledge sharing of best practices and lessons learnt.

  • This is a full-time position.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership to the ACHAP project team in the field.

  • Lead field implementation of RMNCH project activities in line with project strategy, objectives, and activity plan

  • Develop work plans (annual, semi-annual, quarterly and monthly) and ensure timely implementation of project activities with the support of the field project team, CHMTs, CBOs and community-based structures

  • Plan and coordinate the training of project and partner staff to increase their capacity to deliver quality RMNCH programs

  • Coordinate with field teams to ensure that guidance and mentoring are provided to healthcare providers and community partners

  • Collect secondary data on key RMNCH indicators such as maternal mortality ratios, contraceptive prevalence rates, GBV data, and HIV/AIDS statistics.

  • Review existing assessment reports by the MOH, ACHAP and other RMNCH partners

  • Ensure
    linkages between existing country office RMNCH and health projects and ensure strategies build upon in-country expertise aimed at promoting sustainability

  • Propose possible recommendations for improving community RMNCH strategies

  • In collaboration with other team members, make sure that high quality technical reports are timely produced that clearly describe progress made, achievements, challenges and lessons learned

  • In collaboration with the M&E Lead, design and develop supervisory, monitoring and evaluation systems for RMNCH interventions

  • Ensuring the submission of data and reports from the field is timely, accurate and transparent

  • Represent ACHAP’s work and specifically SRHR activities in health sector steering committee, Reproductive Health working group meetings, as well as other coordination meetings with the MOHS and other relevant bodies.

  • Coordinate with other sectors (Livelihood, Food & Nutrition Security, and WASH. etc.) to ensure a multi-sector approach to SRH

  • In conjunction with the HR, recruit technical project staff, built their capacities and provide support needed for their performance

    Key Competencies:

  • A Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, International Development or related fields.

  • At least 9 years working experience in a senior management role, preferably on MNCH/Nutrition/WASH programs.

  • Experience in implementing MNCH/Nutrition/WASH programs at community level. Experience with large and complex donor programs and reporting requirements is an added advantage.

  • Experience coordinating with ministries of health and local communities, in implementation of MNCH/Nutrition/WASH programs.

  • Strong writing and organizational skills for monitoring and reporting on program and program outcomes and impacts.

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
