Job Roles and Responsibilities:

• Asphalt Paver Operation: Safely and skilfully operate the asphalt paver to lay hot mix asphalt and create road surfaces with precise thickness and evenness.

• Material Handling: Coordinate with the paving team to receive and distribute hot mix asphalt to the paver’s hopper for continuous and smooth asphalt placement.

• Paving Speed and Accuracy: Control the paver’s speed and movement to achieve the specified pavement width and thickness as per project requirements.

• Surface Finishing: Ensure a smooth and uniform surface texture by adjusting the paver’s settings and managing the flow of asphalt.

• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the asphalt paver and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.

• Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of the asphalt paver and report any mechanical issues or maintenance requirements promptly.

• Communication: Effectively communicate with the Paver Operator Supervisor and other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow.

• Project Support: Collaborate with other construction crew members to support various tasks and contribute to the overall progress of the road construction project.

• Environmental Awareness: Follow environmentally responsible practices during asphalt paving to minimize environmental impact.

• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including work hours, asphalt usage, and equipment maintenance.

• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations and protocols for the safe operation of the paver and work in a manner that minimizes risks to personnel and equipment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Surface Smoothness: Evaluate the smoothness and evenness of the paved road surfaces.

• Safety Compliance: Track adherence to safety protocols and the number of incidents or accidents during asphalt paving.

• Equipment Maintenance: Assess the frequency and urgency of asphalt paver maintenance requirements.

• Team Collaboration: Evaluate the ability to work well with other construction team members and supervisors.

Project Progress: Monitor and report on the completion of asphalt paving tasks as per project timelines.

• Adherence to Specifications: Ensure compliance with project specifications and paving guidelines.

• Environmental Impact: Monitor and minimize the environmental impact of asphalt paving activities.

Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• Safety Consciousness: Knowledge of safety procedures and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of asphalt paver mechanics and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.

• Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and report issues.

• Surface Finishing: Skill in achieving a high-quality surface finish with the asphalt paver.

• Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and support other construction team members to achieve project objectives.

• Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices to minimize the environmental impact of asphalt paving operations.

• Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand long hours of operating heavy machinery and handling asphalt paving tasks.

• Record Keeping: Capability to maintain accurate records of daily operations and equipment maintenance.

• Valid driver’s license: Possession of a valid driver’s license and any relevant certifications.

• Qualification: Ordinary Level Certificate and / or Certification in Dozer Operation / related technical field.

• Professional experience: Minimum of three years’ busy commercial working experience.
