Absa Group Analyst: Credit Risk and Acquisitions Jobs in South Africa

Key Accountabilities

Outputs to Deliver Against the Purpose (50%)

  • Analyse and measure monthly impairment and capital numbers.

  • Understand impairment and capital drivers.

  • Forecast credit provision (impairment and capital) for budgeting periods: revised annual forecasts, short‑term plans (12 months), and medium‑term plans (60 months).

  • Assist in setting collection targets (on and off balance sheet) in line with the budget.

  • Analyse collections performance in line with risk appetite.

  • Measure impacts of credit policy changes, including acquisition and collections strategies.

  • Calculate potential losses for once‑off risk events.

  • Understand accounting processes and financial reporting (including disclosure reporting).

  • Conduct ad hoc analysis.

    Stakeholder Management (20%)
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (Risk Management, Credit Lending, Product Head, Collections, BU Finance) to convey impairment numbers and portfolio performance.

  • Report impacts of model changes, policy changes, and emerging risks.

  • Sign off impairment budgets and provide updates to stakeholders.

  • Analyse and report impairment performance and trends to Portfolio Manager and Head Risk Decision Support.

    Analysis and Reporting (30%)
  • Compile reports in line with reporting requirements and portfolio measures for the product Risk Management team.

  • Ensure monthly Portfolio Performance Reports (with commentary) are completed on time and to required standards.

  • Develop management information (MI) as required.

  • Produce monthly account‑level impairment and capital data and
    reports.

  • Produce industry impairment reports to track performance relative to the market and support risk appetite discussions.

    Education
  • Bachelor Honours Degree in Business Management and Informatics (BMI) (Required).

    Experience
  • 1+ years’ experience in data analysis using SAS, R, Python, or similar programming languages (SAS proficiency beneficial).

  • 1+ years’ experience in banking (vehicle finance / retail credit beneficial).

  • 3+ years’ advanced computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
