Absa Bank Limited Senior Manager Collections Jobs in Kenya; Providing strategic direction in driving and ensuring implementation of Collection and Recoveries strategies and other related initiatives leading to cost reduction and efficient processes. The role involves team capacity reviews, embedding the people agenda, managing key stakeholders, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal bank policies, and vendor management.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Business Management

  • Ensure all secured recoveries strategies including outsource, rehabilitation, and repossession are duly actioned within stipulated timelines and in line with strategy

  • Monitor the financial performance of the team against set targets

  • Ensure processes, control requirements, and risk management frameworks are understood by all team members

  • Assist the team with financial performance monitoring in terms of targets

  • Constantly seek to improve ways of working by challenging the status quo and supporting an empowering climate

  • Share best practice and provide feedback to continuously improve performance standards

  • Pursue self-development to increase personal effectiveness

  • Ensure collection of access cards from employees leaving the department and coordinate removal of systems access

  • Participate in local events to support community needs and raise the team’s profile

    People Management

  • Lead the team to ensure effective management of collections

  • Ensure operational targets including prioritisation of work schedules are achieved

  • Identify the need for additional resources including people, budget, and equipment

  • Develop and monitor achievement of performance objectives in the team

  • Ensure compliance to policies, legislation, and regulations

  • Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members

  • Identify developmental needs and propose training plans

  • Develop a succession plan for the team

  • Monitor leave plans and overtime to ensure adequate coverage and efficiency

  • Address poor performance through formal programmes

  • Create an enabling work environment and ensure required training is completed

    Operations Management

  • Monitor productivity dashboards to ensure key metrics are met

  • Recommend restructures for clients according to set parameters

  • Ensure customer complaints are actioned within 48-hour SLA

  • Assist the team with complicated queries

  • Implement, monitor, and track Collections strategy

  • Align business rules to policies and procedures

  • Ensure satisfactory service delivery

    Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure adequate controls are in place and regulatory requirements adhered to

  • Address control and audit issues in
    good time

  • Provide auditors with required information promptly

  • Log, investigate, and close risk and loss events due to error or fraud

  • Ensure compliance requirements are understood and gaps highlighted

  • Participate in BCM tests and document results

  • Develop and update Risk and Control Assessments (RCA’s) quarterly

  • Ensure compliance with physical and systems access control and information security requirements

  • Develop action plans to reduce and manage risk issues

  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal policies

    Customer Service

  • Deliver consistently high standards of customer service

  • Reduce action line complaints

  • Promote customer orientation and focus across the business unit

  • Identify and execute initiatives to exceed customer expectations

    Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent professional qualification

  • Awareness of Group Credit Policies, Collection & Recoveries Policy and strategy

  • Understanding of banking policies, principles, and procedures

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines

  • Knowledge of workflow management

  • Understanding of Retail, Service Delivery, and Business banking proposition

  • General knowledge of Kenyan law impacting banking and employee management (Data protection, Consumer Credit legislation, etc.)

  • Understanding of banking IT systems and telephony systems

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping procedures and systems

  • Detailed understanding of the bank’s Performance Management model

  • Understanding of IFRS9

    Experience

  • Understanding of the local competitor market

  • Experience in an operations environment

  • Prior experience resolving customer queries/complaints

  • Prior experience working with service providers

  • Experience in managing a team

  • Relationship management experience

  • Basic credit management techniques

  • Risk management techniques

  • Impairment management

  • Experience with models and management information tools

  • Experience leading a team and working with different stakeholders
