  • Drive implementation of business and service strategies, deliver Retail and Business Banking performance and growth targets in the branch.

  • Maintain a high level of bank standards and management controls to achieve operational & control rigor excellence, through strict adherence to operations and compliance policies and guidelines.

  • Establish a high-performance culture amongst the branch team.

    Job Description

    Key Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)

    Business Growth – Time Split 60%

  • Implement business strategic initiatives and create ownership of the branch performance targets

  • Monitor branch business performance and adjust execution strategies accordingly

  • Manage branch portfolio risks in line with the bank’s portfolio appetite

  • Conduct product review and development through market feedback

  • Collaborate with other business functions to maximize cross-selling opportunities

  • Conduct market intelligence to identify new opportunities and trends

  • Manage borrowing and non-borrowing accounts to enhance loyalty and retention

  • Lead the branch team to achieve retention, transaction migration, balance sheet growth, and acquisitions

  • Establish firm relationships with top clients and influencers in the local area

  • Provide regular feedback to staff on performance

  • Ensure proper controls, processes, and procedures are adhered to at all times

  • Ensure branch operations comply with regulatory timelines and standards

  • Maintain branch look and feel as per Absa standards

  • Ensure adherence to KYC & AML processes

  • Review and sign off system reports as per Records Management policy

  • Remain alert to financial crime risks and adhere to reporting principles

  • Manage branch costs and expenditure effectively

  • Ensure compliance with operational, security, and control risks

  • Achieve satisfactory audit ratings through continuous assessment

    Internal Controls, Governance, Processes & Procedures – Time Split 15%

  • Ensure compliance with Absa policies and regulatory requirements

  • Adhere to KYC & AML processes for new business

  • Review and file system reports appropriately

  • Manage branch costs including expenditure, maintenance, overtime, and sundry losses

  • Ensure compliance with operational and security risks to protect assets

  • Achieve satisfactory audit ratings and close exceptions promptly

  • Ensure fees and commissions due to the bank are collected

  • Drive quality sales and manage delinquency

  • Ensure adherence to data privacy policies

    Customer Experience – Time Split 15%

  • Maintain branch look and feel as per Absa standards

  • Ensure excellent customer experience and set TATs are
    achieved

  • Act promptly on customer complaints and queries

  • Keep customer data up to date

  • Maintain branch NPS scores

  • Gather customer feedback and advise leadership for improvements

  • Monitor counter service to ensure acceptable waiting times

    Capacity Building & People Management – Time Split 10%

  • Build and develop a high-performing and motivated staff team

  • Plan resources, set performance objectives, and provide feedback

  • Offer training, coaching, and mentoring to branch staff

  • Coordinate branch resources to achieve common goals

  • Undertake e-learning and training activities within timelines

  • Manage succession planning and training needs analysis

  • Handle performance, disciplinary issues, and grievances

  • Manage staff leave and sickness

    Role/Person Specification

    Qualification

  • University degree in a relevant discipline; postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage

    Preferred Experience

  • At least 5 years of Banking/Financial Services experience, with 3 years in branch management

  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience in banking

    Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills

  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and staff development abilities

  • Solid understanding of financial products and services

  • Knowledge of lending, investments, compliance, risk management, and customer relationship management

  • Track record of achieving sales targets

  • Detailed knowledge of operational and credit risk policies
