Job Description

  • Abebech Gobena Yehetsanat Kebekabena Limat Mahiber (AGOHELMA) is a not-for-profit, child centered charity Association. The Association was founded in 1980, during severe drought in the country, by philanthropic Dr. Abebech Gobena.

  • To break the cycle that creates children without parental care and children living in vulnerable circumstances, our programs now go beyond and include multifaceted holistic activities like mother and child healthcare; HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support including voluntary counseling and testing (VCT); community based RH/FP; supplementary feeding; formal and non-formal education; vocational education training; women empowerment; and many more.

  • Through these programs we have changed the lives of thousands of people.

    Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize resources; lead and undertake surveys and baseline studies in order to expand existing projects and to formulate new projects so as to secure grants;

  • Ensure that efficient and reliable financial, accounting and administrative system are established to effectively control the property and finance of the organization

  • Develop and, when approved, implement a strategic plan and programs that would bring about difference in the lives of orphan and vulnerable children and marginalized community members at large;

  • Closely monitor the situation, changes and new developments in the NGO sector and design a strategic plan that ensures AGOHELMA to expand its growth in addressing as many children and community member beneficiaries as possible;

  • Provide necessary directives to projects and work units to prepare and submit their respective annual plans and budget. Consolidate such plans and budget to an overall AGOHELMA’s plan and budget;

  • Lead, follow up and ensure all program projects;

  • Regularly visit project sites to ensure projects are operating efficiently and effectively;
    provides guidance and directives as necessary;

  • Build strong networks with donor agencies, government bodies and other stake holders
    Direct, coordinate and supervise the proper execution of all program activities, public relations and resource mobilization ;

  • Make efforts to create a favorable and enabling working environment internally and externally by establishing good relationships with stakeholders and staff

  • Provide the executive director with regular updates on program activities and results, including timely reports;

  • Direct and coordinate effective resource mobilization and sponsorship activities;

  • Ensure that financial reports are prepared and consolidated to the Association’s financial reports and submits to the executive director and other offices as per the directives thereon;

  • Coordinate, direct and lead the overall projects and programs and maximize their operational performance;

  • Ensure that the Association’s missions are effectively achieved;

  • Perform other duties as required.

    Job Requirements

    Education level:

  • MA/BA/MSC/BSC Degree in Sociology, Social work, Economics, Management or related studies from recognized University.

    Experience:

  • 8 years for MA/MSC and 10 years for BA/BSC, of which 5 years must be in managerial position.

    Desired Skills:

  • Excellent managerial, interpersonal relation and computer skills, English language proficiency, both written and spoken, and team work capability.
