AATF Programme Officer – Technical Operations Directorate - Jobs in Kenya

AATF is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and promotes access and delivery of appropriate proprietary agricultural technologies for use by resource-poor smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Based in Nairobi, but working across the continent, AAFT fosters its mission through public/private partnerships to reach its target farmers.

The organisation is a one-stop shop that provides expertise and know-how that facilitates the identification, access, development, delivery and utilisation of proprietary agricultural technologies.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director Technical Operations, the Programme Officer will assistant in the implementation of activities in the Technical Operations Directorate.

Specifically, she/he will:

  • Assist the DTO in technical duties, new project establishment/commencement, product launch engagements, etc.
  • Complement and interphase effectively with other AATF departments on cross-cutting roles
  • Assist in the preparation of annual project budget reviews and project status reports
  • Scheduling, organising and participating in project review meetings
  • Assist in provision of accurate project information for use in resource mobilisation
  • Participate in the preparation of project documents
  • Maintenance of the supervisor’s calendar, contacts with high-ranking visitors, arrangement of appointments and meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing materials for appointments, meetings, missions
  • Maintenance of rosters of project – related high-level partners, telephone lists
  • Assist in the preparation of correspondence, directives, comments on behalf of DTO for his/her signature and making follow-up when required
  • Maintenance of the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials
  • Assist in following up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken and coordination of collection and submission of reports to the relevant departments
  • Scheduling, coordinating and documenting meetings

    Desired Skills
  • Be creative and innovative in the preparation of Power Point presentations for the directorate and organisation
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Holds effectively under highly demanding schedules and pressure
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an
    ability to consistently maintain good working relationships, and work effectively in a team setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive performance feedback, effectively recommend, and communicate needed improvements
  • Demonstrated financial/ budget management skills
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment

    Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree in an Agricultural discipline or any other related and equivalent disciplines from a recognised institution
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in research, and development and dissemination of agricultural products
  • Hands on experience in data analysis and reporting
  • Have extremely good computational skills and use of general office and scientific software
  • Excellent communication skills including fluency in written and spoken English and the ability to write effectively for varied purposes and audiences
  • Administratively self-sufficient and strong computer skills with advanced proficiency with MS applications, and a willingness to learn additional software and systems as required
