Wiser Secondary School Principal

School Principal

Women's Institute for Secondary Education & Research (WISER)

Girls' Secondary Boarding School & Community Centre, Muhuru Bay, Kenya.

Job Ref. MN 4034

The School

The Women's Institute of Secondary Education and Research (WISER), founded and registered in as an independent Kenyan not-for-profit NGO, is building a private girls' secondary boarding school and community centre in Muhuru Bay, Kenya.

This school and centre will serve the community with a holistic approach toward improving educational, economic, and health outcomes for girls.

Construction of the seven acre campus, located 40km west of Migori on the shore of Lake Victoria, will be complete in September, and the WISER school will open in January, enrolling 30 girls in Form 1 on full scholarship.

Wiser's Founding History

The WISER NGO in Kenya emerges from a long-term relationship between Dr. Sherryl Broverman and Mr. Andy Cunningham from Duke University in the USA and Dr. Rose Odhiambo from Egerton University in Kenya.

Dr. Rose Odhiambo was the first girl from Muhuru Bay to attend public university, an impressive accomplishment considering only 5% of girls from the area currently enroll in secondary school.

WISER will provide educational and financial resources to girls, particularly orphans, to enable them to realize their potential as people living with respect and dignity.

Through a compliment of community programs, the WISER NGO is also addressing the social and emotional burdens on girls and women, while also working to involve male stakeholders in valuing gender equality.

Student Body

In addition to the 30 female Form 1 students accepted into the WISER School for its first year of operation, 30 girls will be added in Form I as each class advances.

Students, recruited from the 14 primary schools in Muhuru Bay, will be on full scholarship supported by WISER partners.

Each WISER scholar will have completed WISER Bridge, a public-private partnership with all primary schools within the Muhuru Bay Division to increase KCPE scores for every standard eight pupil through extra instruction time, school supplies and term assessments.

This program will provide meaningful performance data that can be considered when evaluating applications for admission to WISER.

Teaching Staff

The WISER School Principal will lead the Teaching Staff Search Committee from August - October in selecting his / her inaugural team of one deputy head and four teachers to lead the first class of 30 students.

WISER teachers and principal are expected to prepare students for post-secondary education and other career opportunities.
