Volunteer in Malawi and you will be involved in a very rewarding and worthwhile experience. Malawi is a very poor country with over half of its 12 million people living on under $1 a day. Our Malawi volunteer programs aim to make a difference - especially in the lives deprived and neglected children.

We have volunteer projects in Blantyre city, Lilongwe and Msema village in Phalombe district of Malawi.

Malawi volunteer work includes volunteering in orphanages, teaching in primary and secondary schools, and working as a medical volunteer in local hospitals and clinics. Volunteers in an orphanage

Children Orphanage Volunteers Program

The children at the orphanages have lost their parents mostly due to HIV and Aids. Others have been abandoned after birth or left in the streets to fend for themselves.

As a volunteer in a children’s home, you will be helping orphans and street children whose age range from birth to 14 years. Volunteers are involved in a variety of tasks.

These include helping with meal preparations, cleaning, maintenance, playing with the children, helping with homework and getting the children ready for school.

We also work with homes for children with physical and mental special needs. The homes look after babies from birth to 14 years old. Volunteers care for the babies, feeding them, changing nappies, bathing and dressing them, playing with them, taking them for walks as well as helping with their physiotherapy.

Working in an orphanage is a positive, life-changing experience. Volunteers help vulnerable children and the children receive much needed attention, hope, encouragement, support and love from volunteers.

Volunteer in Malawi Teaching Program

Schools in Malawi are under-funded and do not have the resources to employ enough teachers for the large number of children that attend. Any contribution you can make to the schools in terms of volunteer teaching is greatly appreciated.

You may teach at Primary or Secondary schools. Volunteers teach English, Geography, History, Music, Computer skills, Mathematics, Science, Arts & Crafts. You could also support other teachers by helping with playing music, singing songs, drawing pictures, and other creative activities that children enjoy.

Volunteers are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities with the children. In many cases, volunteers also help develop extracurricular activities.

Malawi Medical and Health Volunteer Program

Medical volunteers support the vital and varied work of the local clinics and hospitals. The medical and health program is suitable for pre-med students, medical students and volunteers with medical qualifications.

Volunteers without medical experience also play an important role in assisting in the local community clinics, doing office work and teaching HIV/AIDS awareness in schools.

Accommodation & Meals

You will stay with a family host. Three or four other volunteers may stay with the same family. This will be within a walking or cycling distance to your volunteer project.
