The Champions of the Earth Award

UNEP invites nominations from individuals who have made a significant contribution globally, regionally and beyond, to the protection and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources.

Persons may nominate themselves or their own organisation, or they may choose to nominate a third party whom they believe should receive recognition.

All nominations must be supported by three referees. Referees need not be from the candidate's home region.

For the award has been revamped to recognize individuals and organizations that have exemplified inspiration, vision, innovation, leadership and action for the environment.

Whether they are economists or philosophers, musicians or artists, religious or civic figures operating on the global, national or local stage, certain people and organizations are truly distinguished when it comes to making a real difference in proctecting our planet.

UNEP's Champions of the Earth Awards honours these best and brightest as they strive to take action for our planet through their inventive thinking and successful execution.

UNEP is looking for real and inspirational Champions-people and organizations who are not fazed by what can sometimes seem to be insuperable challeges.

In response to the UN-wide call to UNite to combact climate change, Champions of the Earth winners represent the cutting edge in innovative thinking and execution of these efforts.
