Tanzania Media Fund

Tanzania Media Fund (TMF) is a new fund that seeks to promote independence and quality in media, with a particular focus on public interest and investigative journalism.

TMF believes that independent media is the lifeblood of a free and democratic society.

To support quality journalism, offers:

  • A competitive grant-making facility for individuals and institutions involved in media production (print, television and radio)
  • A tailor-made learning facility for grantees that offers learning-by-doing resources, coaching, mentorship and networking opportunities.

    Awarding Criteria:

  • TMF will award grants to proposals that focus on investigative and public interest journalism.

    Successful proposals will also contribute to at least one of the following priority areas:

  • Improving public transparency and accountability and promoting informed public debate.
  • Increasing the diversity of voices in the public sphere, especially voices from rural areas and/or of historically excluded people.
  • Addressing the underlying causes of poverty in Tanzania.
  • We invite journalists, media houses and organisations to apply for the second call for Strategic Capacity and Regional individual grant proposals.
