TWAS-CONACYT Fellowship Programme

The National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT), Mexico, and TWAS offer fellowships to scientists from developing countries (other than Mexico) who wish to obtain a PhD in the natural sciences

TWAS-CONACYT Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at eligible institutions of higher education and research in Mexico for a period up to four years for studies leading to a PhD degree in the natural sciences and related fields.

The academic year in Mexico usually begins in August of each year.

Candidates will enrol for their PhD at the host institution and must observe the academic calendar of the host institution and be ready to start their fellowship on the first day of classes/courses.

CONACYT will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food.

CONACYT will also provide medical services through the social security agency ISSSTE (Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado).

Eligibility:

Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:

Be a maximum age of 30 years on 31 December of the year of application.

Be nationals of a developing country (other than Mexico).

Hold a Master's degree in a field of the natural sciences.

Provide an official Acceptance Letter from the host institution and be willing to register for a PhD degree in the natural sciences at a Mexican institution of higher education.

Prove knowledge of Spanish according to the requirements of each Postgraduate programme, if this language is not the candidate’s mother tongue.

The applicant will be informed of these requirements on applying to the relevant postgraduate programme.
