SACEMA Postgraduate Bursaries in Epidemiology

SACEMA was launched during May as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation.

SACEMA is a national research Centre of Excellence, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, administered by the National Research Foundation and hosted by the University of Stellenbosch.

As a national centre, the centre want to fund South African students working in the field of mathematical epidemiology.

This involves the mathematical modelling of disease transmission and progression, focusing on South Africa’s major health challenges.

The full-time bursaries are as follows:

  • Masters: R70,000-00 per year for 2 years
  • Doctoral: R100,000-00 per year for 3 years

    Students from the following fields are welcome to apply: mathematics, biostatistics, community and public health, although others wanting to work in the area of mathematical epidemiology are also welcome.
