The National Council for Persons with Disabilities is a State Corporation established by the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003 to provide for the rights and rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and to achieve equalization of opportunities for Persons with Disabilities and for connected purposes.

Vacancy for the Position of Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees

The selection panel invites applicants from suitable qualified persons with Disabilities and the general public for nine (9) positions of Board of Directors and four (4) positions of the Board of Trustees of the National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities.

The powers and functions of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities and National Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities are as stipulated in sections 7 and 33 (2) of the Persons with Disabilities Act.

A person shall be qualified for appointment to the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees if he/she:

  • Holds a degree or a post graduate qualification from a recognized university, preferably in Management, Law, Economics, Finance, Architecture , Information Communication Technology, Education, Social Sciences and or Development Studies. A post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Has extensive experience in public and private service at a senior management Level in Business, project administration, Finance or related areas.
  • Has demonstrated notable or significant achievements in disability management and bring on board a range of skills, diverse perspective and background to the Board.
  • Has a highest ethical standards, a strong sense of professionalism and intense dedication to serving the interest of stakeholders.
  • Has personal integrity, independence, objectivity and an intense dedication to service.
  • Understand the values and principles of Corporate Governance.
  • Ability to network and fund raise.
  • Must be recommended by Disabled Persons Organization/ stakeholders
  • Satisfy the selection panel that he/she is unlikely to have a conflict of interest.
  • Is in the opinion of the selection panel, otherwise suitable to perform the functions and duties of a member competently and honestly.
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution.

    Terms of Service

    A Member shall be appointed for a term of Three (3) years and is eligible for re-appointment for two (2) years subject to review by the appointing authority.

    All applicants are required to obtain relevant clearance certificates from the following bodies:

  • Kenya Revenue Authority(Tax Compliance),
  • Higher Education Loans Board,
  • Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission,
  • Criminal Investigation Department (Certificate of Good Conduct),
  • Credit Services Bureau,
  • Commissioner for Higher Education(for those with Foreign qualifications)

    NB:

  • Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs) to submit names of their preferred nominees’, attaching the nominees detailed Curriculum Vitae and Certified copies of Academic certificates and testimonials.
  • Applicants are advised to state their counties on the application letter.
  • All applications should be submitted on or before, Tuesday 9th October, 2013 at 5.00pm.

  • Each application should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional certificates, testimonials and other relevant supporting documents.
  • A copy of the National Identity Card/Passport should be appended.
