Journalists nationals of the 43 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean are invited to participate in the Mediterranean Journalist Award, including Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco.

The Award is the leading region-wide prize for journalists reporting across cultures and on issues of cultural diversity, with winning journalistic works chosen by an international jury of leading intellectuals and media experts.

Award Categories:

  • Award for Printed Articles;
  • Award for Online Blogs;
  • Award for Radio Productions;
  • Award for Television Productions;
  • Special Recognition for Conflict Reporting.

    The ‘Special Recognition for Conflict Reporting’ has been included for the 2009 edition in the aftermath of Gaza and the events which impacted on the Mediterranean region at the start of the year, in recognition of the challenge journalists face in reporting on conflict.

    Prizes

  • Annual winners of the Mediterranean Journalist Award gain the opportunity to receive recognition at an international awarding ceremony, participate in a high profile regional reporting tour and receive a cash prize for their journalistic works.
  • Annual winners of the Mediterranean Journalist Award receive their official trophies at an international awarding ceremony which brings together representatives of the media sector, civil society and political decision-makers, in addition to receiving their individual cash prize of 5000 Euros.
  • The winners are also involved in a high profile reporting tour within the Mediterranean region, organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation with the aim of covering a specific issue related to cultural diversity.
  • Winning journalistic works will be edited in a printed publication and disseminated to the Foundation’s region-wide network of over two thousand civil society organizations, as well as published on partner websites.
  • In addition to the five annual award winners, the organizers will also attribute honorable mentions in each category for journalists who participate in the competition.
  • The persons receiving a Honorable Mention will be registered as an ambassador for media work across Mediterranean region, with the opportunity to play a leading role in activities, events and advocacy work taking place at the regional and international level.
