Leeds Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme: Up to seven scholarships are available to candidates from developing Commonwealth countries to undertake a one-year taught Master's programme of study at the University of Leeds in a subject related to the economic, social or technological development of the candidate's home country.

The Scholarships, which are funded jointly by the Department for International Development (DfID) provide maintenance and other allowances, payment of tuition fees and travel to and from the UK.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not currently be living or studying in a developing country;
  • Hold a first degree which is equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours Degree;
  • Be no more than 35 years old on commencement of the programme of study (some preference is given to those aged 30 or below);
  • Meet the University minimum standard of English Language requirements
  • Have not previously studies for one year or more in a developed country;
  • Not be employed by a governmental department (at national level) or a parastatal organisation (employees of universities are normally acceptable, however);
  • Be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for their proposed programme of study;
  • Be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete.
