Kericho Water & Sanitation Company Limited (KEWASCO) is a Private Company established under the company’s Act CAP 486, Laws of Kenya and it is wholly owned by the Municipal Council of Kericho.

The company was incorporated in October 1997. It has been contracted by Lake Victoria South Water Services Board to provide Water & Sanitation services within Kericho Municipality and its environs.

Position: GIS Officer

Reports to: Planning & Engineering Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate should be able to perform the following duties with minimum supervision:

Incumbent creates implements, integrates and maintains GIS applications utilizing ArcGIS based platform (ArcGIS Editor and ArcGIS Info) in relation to water utility.

Create maps and graphs, using ARCGIS software and related equipment in a water utility.

Meet with users to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.

Trains staff in the use and preparation of GIS data and user interfaces.

Assists with data creation and collection including the principles and practices of Global Positioning Systems (GPS).

Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases.

Gather, analyze and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS in water utility.

Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including customer surveys, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.

Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.

Design and update database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.

Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.

Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.

Uses all required safety equipment.

Performs any assigned duties.

Qualifications:

The candidate should possess the following Academic Qualifications:

Diploma / Higher Diploma Qualifications in Geo-Information Systems (GIS) or Computer Science/IT with PGD in GIS with at least 2 or 3 years experience with the use of ArcGIS in water related field.

Diploma / Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geospatial/Survey Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Water Engineering with at least 3 years practical experience with the use of ArcGIS in water related field.

A University Degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.

Good Project Management Skills.

Knowledge on ArcGIS Server.

Age: 25 and Above.

This position is on Contract Terms for 2 years with a possibility of being converted to Permanent and Pensionable Terms depending on the outputs/deliverables and suitability on the job.
