The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme seeks an international volunteer to be posted at CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

As a UNV assignment, the post is based on the values of free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism.

The Volunteer Outreach Associate will assist with the ensuring recognition of volunteers' role in civil society organisations and in civil activism, and the creation of the right environment and infrastructure for promoting volunteerism.

Required Competencies

  • University degree in the discipline of International Relations, Development Studies, Public Administration, or other related fields;
  • Relevant professional experience in volunteer management, including experience in national volunteer centres;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and one other U.N. language such as Arabic or French;
  • Strong knowledge in geography, and excellent understanding of global civil society issues and international NGO networks;
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, significant knowledge of MS Access preferred;
  • Administrative experience with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills; and,
  • Ability to work successfully individually and as a contributing member of an effective team.
