The ICRC's Somalia Delegation in Nairobi- co-ordinates the institution humanitarian activities in Somalia

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the executive humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance.

It also endeavors to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.

Water and Habitat GIS Officer Assistant

The water and habitat unit carries out various projects in Somalia which include bore hole rehabilitation and rain water catchment structures, as well as medical structures construction and renovation.

In the frame of its activities, the Somali Delegation in Nairobi is seeking a skilled and highly motivated person to fill the GIS (Geographic Information System) Assistant position

Responsibilities

a. To produce maps and process GIS data for the delegation's departments and management

b. carry out GIS based data analysis for the delegation

c. maintain, manage and update the delegation's GIS data's and databases

d. Carry out assessments and technical GIS surveys in Somalia

e. Close collaboration with GIS and information officers from local and international organizations working in Somalia

f. Organize for and provide technical training and support to ICRC staff

g. Perform the duties of the GIS officer when needed

Minimum Requirements

a. Degree of Bachelor of Science in Surveying/Geomatics Engineering from a recognized university

b. Minimum of 1 year experience in the GIS and Survey fields

c. Experience and fluency in ESRI GIS products as well as open source GIs software

d. Excellent computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, any other interactive softwares)

e. Good command of AutoCAD

f. Interest and ability to use web based mapping platforms

Other Requirements

a. Experience in humantarian work

b. Practical working knowledge of visual basic, java, web-based mapping and any other relevant programming language is an asset

Profile

a. Flexibility and willingness to travel occasionally to Somalia and ability to work in hardships

b. good report writing and administrative skills, self initiative, self -directed learning and ability to work independently
