Humanitarian Mine Action Instructor - Mines Awareness Trust (MAT)

The Mines Awareness Trust (MAT) is currently delivering HMA training course in partnership with the International Mine Action Training Centre (IMATC), Nairobi, specifically demining and EOD training to International Mine Action Standards.

Due to planned expansion, MAT requires an additional HMA instructor to join the growing MAT training team.

The candidate will be responsible for delivering training to international students at the IMATC (Duty station Nairobi), and should have a strong background in the design and delivery of training.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The HMA Instructor will be under the direct management of the MAT KENYA Country Programme Manager and will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and Develop instructional specifications (lesson plans)
  • Assist in the development of training materials
  • Manage day to day delivery of instruction
  • Conduct testing and data validation
  • Write student course reports
  • Stand in as Chief Instructor when necessary

    Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Advanced EOD qualification (IMAS EOD level 4 or military equivalent)
  • IEDD Operator (Advanced or No1)
  • BCMD and/or CBRN Trained
  • Experience as a technical advisor managing field operations within a HMA project/programme
  • Proven experience of designing and delivering training (using the SAT method).
  • Good knowledge and understanding of IMAS and IMSMA.
  • Computer literate (MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel as a minimum)
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Driving license

    Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Knowledge of integrated clearance methodology utilising manual, mechanical and MDD assets
  • Experience of working within HMA projects in different countries
  • Knowledge or experience of SALW projects
