Purpose

The Community Service Officer will work on the sport and community cohesion component of ZOA’s ‘Integrated Crisis Recovery Response Plan for vulnerable refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in Gambella region, Ethiopia program in Gambella region different woredas, on a day-to-day basis, to ensure optimal delivery of the programme, ensuring adherence to all ZOA policies. The role also involves working alongside other NGOs, government and international partners to share best practice and further the interests and reach of the school feeding program.

Typical Responsibilities - Key end Results of the Position:

  • Initiate, implement and monitor specific activities related to sport and Community Cohesion, both in refugee camps and host communities.
  • Provides technical support to project beneficiaries on sustainable Community cohesion and sport trainings for unity;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with partners and stakeholders to link and harmonize approaches and to promote common interests and achievement of results;
  • Prepares Terms of References for various activities like; sport games, trainings and other related activities
  • Plans, executes and follow-up operational activities in line with the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plan of the project;
  • Collaborate with local government officials (sport and youth bureau) and other peace and security stakeholders at regional levels to plan and implement project activities, in particular with refugee and host Community sport and Peace Committees.
  • Participate in all capacity building initiatives, fieled assessments, monitoring and Community cohesion dialogues reconciliation dialogues as required;
  • Provides technical support to partners,
    CBOs, ethnic group leaders, youth groups and the community in areas of coming together by sport, joint resources use and combating harmful traditional practices;
  • Support the development of a comprehensive social cohesion strategy for the project, by producing guidelines, manuals, reports and activities
  • Develop tools/methodologies to enhance mainstreaming of social cohesion approach and sport all over the programme
  • Provide staff with support and up-to-date advice on developments and challenges in project implementation together with any necessary recommendations for action;
  • Report on sport and community cohesion activities and ensure that lessons learned are shared and documented to maximize the impact of contribute to future program strategy and direction;
  • Support the Community Cohesion Project Coordinator and ZOA colleagues to ensure proper administration and management of the project;
  • Ensuring that any Safety, Security and Safeguarding concerns are addressed immediately and in line with ZOA Policy;
  • Perform any other task assigned by Supervisor

    Dealing with Problems.

  • The community service officer will support in strengthening the relationships with all communities, INGOs, and government stalk holders with developing proper program planning for smooth sport and community cohesion project implementation.

    Communications and Working Relationships:

  • Should be able to have a medium level of interaction with government officials, beneficiaries and ZOA to facilitate project works in the region.

    Job Requirements

    Educational Qualification

  • A university degree in a relevant field.
  • Specifically, social work, sport, and peace building

    Skills and Experience:

    The successful candidate will have at least 4 years’ experience in community based sport programs, peace building, and community service in Ethiopia preferably in Gambella within a non-governmental organization. In addition, the following skills and competencies are required:

  • Proven community sensitization and mobilization skills;
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Command of both spoken and written English;
  • The knowledge to local knowledge is preferable
  • Knowledge of the usual computer software applications;
  • Strong team building skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and in remote woredas and villages across Gambella
