WRI Project Specialist II, Urban Mobility Jobs in Ethiopia


Job Summary

  • In this role, you will work on project coordination, research and administrative support of the WRI program for African cities, including supporting the scaling up of public transport mapping in cities Africa and integrated transport planning.

  • Your responsibilities will include coordinating projects, organizing workshops, staff visits and external meetings, as well as supporting research or projects as needed and time is available.

  • You would have the opportunity to get in touch with experts in sustainable mobility and urban development and to exchange with experts and colleagues around the world.

  • Support the activities of the WRI Africa Cities program, regional initiatives, in particular in some African cities, on sustainable urban mobility and access, mapping of public transport and adapted transport networks, integrated transport planning and climate-friendly urban mobility policies.

  • Collaborate with municipal governments, local partners, including academic institutions and mapping groups, to identify needs and propose synergies.

  • Support the conduct and analysis of research on best practices and policies in urban mobility, including public transport mapping, integrated transport planning and accessibility

  • Support technical assistance provided by WRI staff and partners in carrying out a series of trainings on the creation and maintenance of open data on public transport in cities and the wider benefits for transport planning and sustainable mobility.

  • Identify tools and applications that would be useful for transportation planning and find potential links with local universities or other organizations.

  • Support the activities of the WRI Africa Cities program, particularly with regard to research on sustainable urban mobility policies, data interpretation and analytical issues, including road safety, complete streets, accessibility, mapping of public transport and paratransit networks, and integrated transport planning.

    Project management

  • Support the coordination of urban mobility projects in the region in order to guarantee the consistency and quality of the deliverables. This includes coordinating with a diverse team of researchers, policy makers and practitioners to implement projects and advance research under the Urban
    Mobility agenda.

  • Collaborate with city governments, local partners and WRI staff globally to advance the WRI agenda for African cities. Manage the day-to-day research and implementation of projects, including preparation of work plans, monitoring of project implementation, and preparation of progress reports, among others.

  • Organize internal and external conferences, meetings, trainings, events and other activities within the framework of the WRI Africa Cities program.

  • Support reporting and budgeting, as needed, with the global WRI team, partners and funders.

  • Help coordinate international staff visits to WRI Africa and other partner travel activities.

    Communication

  • Provide content for WRI communication activities including blogs, newsletters and the WRI Africa website.

  • Support the development of reports on WRI activities for municipal governments, donors and others.

  • Prepare presentations and written and graphic content for presentations and reports.

    Job qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environment, sustainable development, transport or urban planning, GIS or a related field.

    Fluency in French and English

  • Minimum of two years experience working with GIS, preferably in the field of urban planning and transport, with knowledge of GTFS preferred Demonstrable previous work experience and enthusiasm for sustainable urban mobility - public transport and innovation on these issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, juggle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.

  • Attention to detail, organization and independence of mind

  • Clear and effective written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to travel frequently
