Purpose of Position:

  • The Director of Leader Communications grows recognition and trust in of the leadership expertise that exists in World Vision, an organisation that works with partners, children and communities to bring life in all of its fullness to children, especially the most vulnerable.

  • The role oversees a global communications approach for executive leadership in World Vision, and continuously improves and manages a programme that supports and develops expert and senior leaders in the organisation. The role strengthens leaders’ ability to engage with key audiences while growing their influence and authority. It also ensures that leaders are making the best use of engagement opportunities, aligning with and contributing to World Vision’s global strategy, Our Promise.

  • Alongside leader communications development, the role also works with the Global Governance team to engage Board and Advisory Council members across the World Vision Partnership, as well as the Office of the President and CEO to align communications approaches across the executive leadership team.

  • The Director of Leader Communications is passionate about World Vision’s work and has exceptional relational and influencing skills. The candidate is confident in developing expert potential and nurtures the professional growth and confidence of others, especially senior leaders in a global setting.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Institutionalise, deliver and track an executive communications leadership programme to leverage a mix of opportunities that increase trust in World Vision International’s unique expertise and commitment to its promises.

  • Ensure an executive communications leadership programme is integrated with World Vision International President and CEO communications plans for seamless internal and external engagement.

  • Identify, develop and counsel leaders to intentionally increase their profile and strengthen the recognition and credibility of World Vision’s expertise and impact. Create a learning pathway for leaders to develop speaking, engagement and influencing skills.

  • Produce high-quality communications resources in a timely fashion for identified engagement opportunities. Track and measure relevant and targeted leader news and information.

  • Establish and drive a leader communications community of practice to coordinate, learn and scale outstanding practices across the World Vision partnership.

  • Direct the editorial agenda World Vision’s internal publication for leaders and collaborate on the planning of regular internal leader town-halls and events.

  • Strengthen engagement with World Vision’s Board and Advisory Council members through strategic communications that evidence governance best practice and affirm the role of members in World Vision’s global mission.

    Knowledge,
    Skills & Abilities:


  • University Degree and preferred post graduate studies in Communications, Journalism or related field.

  • At least 10 years experience in liaising or managing thought leaders or speakers bureaus especially creating or facilitating content, amplifying profiles through various channels, and measuring content and engagement targets.

  • Strong experience in, and up-to-date knowledge about, ways to leverage and grow influence across channels.

  • Effective coaching, mentoring or facilitation of learning, including receiving and giving feedback constructively and building confidence in others.

  • Understanding of communications strategies and ability to develop strategic and tactic plans that drive action.

  • Demonstrated use of leadership skills and influence to shape business agenda.

  • Understanding of World Vision’s audiences especially powerholders.

  • Has strong ability to network and develop and maintain relationships that inspire trust and respect.

  • Understanding of emerging trends, technology and practices affecting the humanitarian industry.

  • Ability to make the best use of mobile, digital and social media.

  • Excellent track record of effectively working with/ through others, and/or managing a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications and listening skills; Ability to translate complicated ideas, technical language and jargon into simple language; Ability to articulate the multi-dimensional views of World Vision.

  • Ability to respectfully challenges others to ensure in-depth understanding.

  • Experience working in a global organization is desirable.

  • More than 10 years experience producing print, web, video and social media materials and managing agencies or contractors.

  • Excellent in written and verbal communication in English (other languages, especially French and Spanish, are an asset).

    Preferred:

  • Knowledge of World Vision policies and development methods.

  • Shares information with others and works well with colleagues at all levels.

  • Ability to hold oneself and others accountable to professional standards.

  • Inquisitive, flexible and patient.

  • Makes appropriate judgments about where they can add most value and where others are best placed to own actions and deliverables.
