World University Service of Canada Governance Specialist Jobs in South Africa


The Government of Canada’s South Africa Field Support Services Project is contracting the services of a Governance Specialist for numerous projects over a 3 year period. The Advisor will provide field level advice and Governance support on technical and policy matters relating to governance to Canada’s bilateral development assistance program in South Africa.

Qualifications And Mandatory Experience

· Master’s Degree or equivalent in Political Science, Law, Public Administration or other related fields. A PhD in these fields will be considered an asset.
· Minimum of seven years’ relevant experience at the national or international level in providing governance advisory services;
· Strong expertise in governance, rule of law, civil society engagement, democratic reform, gender, and human rights;
· Experience and knowledge in planning, design, monitoring, and evaluation of governance projects and programs, as well as integrating gender equality and environmental considerations into programming;
· Extensive knowledge of South Africa’s governance context
· Experience in liaising with government representatives, development partners and civil society organizations on governance issues;
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing for a variety of audiences and purposes;
· Experience in results-based management;
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
· Previous experience and knowledge working with GAC
· Fluency in English, and
· Ability to work legally in South Africa.

· Ability to synthesize and develop high quality knowledge products from diverse programmatic materials and tools
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders;
· Works well independently with little supervision, as well as within a dynamic team;
· Superior English communication and writing skills; proficiency in French is an asset;
· Is collaborative – builds and maintains effective relationships with their teams, colleagues, external partners and supporters
