Programme Delivery: People Management

  • Co-ordinate and manage team planning and delivery to ensure a high performing team that supports VSO to meet programme demand.
  • Maintain effective engagement and communication with the team keeping them up to date with organisational direction and trends to support effective volunteer delivery.
  • Support the Resourcing Manager, Africa to manage team performance, ensuring compliance with policy, process and procedure.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools to ensure that the resourcing framework and minimum standards are adhered to.
  • Lead responsibility for coordinating response to volunteer emergencies and temporary returns.

    Programme Delivery: Capacity building and support

  • Lead responsibility for ensuring that team members are coached/trained to maintain knowledge and skills, and are informed of, and supported to adapt changes on methodology, process or content.
  • Provide guidance on resourcing policies and processes, ensuring compliance and required level of skill to carry out activities.
  • Provide specialist knowledge of sourcing, recruitment, selection, onboarding and resettlement.
  • Guide the team on effective engagement and professional ways of working with voluntary workforce and Returned Volunteers.

    Programme Delivery: Recruitment

  • Deliver end-to-end recruitment of people resources to support programme delivery.
  • Provide excellent candidate and stakeholder management at all times.
  • Work with Sourcing Managers and Recruitment Specialists to proactively manage talent pool and pipeline.
  • Ensure the accurate capture and analysis of all delivery data needed for business reporting; ensure all candidate details are represented accurately on the human resources information system.
  • Support sourcing activities and resourcing events.
  • Collate delivery information and reports for business reporting.

    Reflection and Learning

  • Schedule debriefing sessions with returned volunteers and share reports with the team for learning and follow up action.
  • Nurture a warm relationship with returned volunteers towards a lifelong engagement with VSO.

    Skills, Competence and Qualifications

  • People Management: Ability to lead, develop, coach and support a high performing team.
  • Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Articulate, influential, concise and able to negotiate.
  • Relationship management: Excellent inter-personal skills. Experience of working with colleagues located dispersedly, able to build strong working relationships, gaining trust and mutual respect; being flexible, responding to perspectives and being assertive when appropriate
  • Organisation and Planning: Excellent organisational skills. Ability to manage time and tight schedules, work effectively under pressure. Using own initiative, with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent understanding of resourcing policies and processes
  • Knowledge of country/regional labour markets, employment and immigration laws and regulations
  • Experience of using Human Resources information systems (HRIS)
  • Understanding and commitment to data protection and equality and diversity issues.
  • Commitment to VSO’s mission, values and People First principles
  • Strong recruitment experience, including an understanding of global mobility and talent management in an international context
  • Excellent customer care management
  • Confidence and experience in external representation
  • Good experience in providing support to logistics, visa and work permit arrangements, health & safety, security, training
  • Willingness and ability to travel to support delivery of capacity building initiatives.
