  • Reports to various offices throughout the consulate and provide temporary office and clerical coverage as needed. As directed by section officers, duties may include routine clerical and administrative functions: i.e., draft correspondence, diplomatic notes and demarches; type reports and cables; prepare briefing books and talking points; answer telephones and screen calls; take accurate messages; meet and escort visitors and work crews; sort and distribute mail; organize and maintain paper and electronic filing systems; schedule and take notes at meetings; schedule appointments; and perform other administrative support functions.

    Qualifications and Evaluations



  • Two years' experience in an office or support-supply operations that required use of forms and record-keeping documentation, and the application of detailed guidelines is required

    Job Knowledge:

  • Incumbent will need to have a broad knowledge of the Consulate, including all Agencies. The primary location of the position will be the U.S. Consulate grounds in Cape town. The incumbent will interact with employees from the Consulate and other Agencies as well.

  • Job holder must have a general knowledge of Area to be able to book accommodation, make restaurant reservations, etc. The incumbent must be able to respond to some questions from VIP visitors and the Front Office regarding Area.

    Education Requirements:

  • Successful completion of secondary school is required.



  • Level 3 (good working knowledge)
    speaking/reading/writing in English is required.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites is required, in addition to various section's databases. Standard typing skill with speed and accuracy.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks to accomplish workload. Attention to detail is imperative and required.

  • Ability to operate general office equipment. Interpersonal skills to develop cooperative working relationships; willingness to work flexible hours.

  • Flexibility, dependability and attention to detail. Requires a secret security clearance.
