Basic Function of the Position
The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) and conducts background investigations of new and existing locally employed staff as well as sponsored contract staff.
The FSNI conducts special investigation, maintains police high level liaison and performs security supports of Consulate events and travel program.
Requirements, Qualifications and Evaluations
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in investigative work with a military, police or private organization is required.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigation is required. Thorough and current knowledge of Nigeria's security environment and workings of the various security organizations is required.
Education Requirements: College (2 years) or Post-Secondary School
Evaluations - This may be tested:
Language: Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required. Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa is required.
Skills And Abilities:
Ability to maintain extensive contacts with officials of various local agencies including the Police.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and to report facts accurately in a logical, concise and objective manner.
Must have a valid Nigeria driver's license.

Benefits and Other Info
Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
Hiring Preference Selection Process: Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below.
Therefore, it is essential that these applicants accurately describe their status on the application.
Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not eligible for a hiring preference.
The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
