Maryland Laboratory Specialist Jobs in Kenya The University of Maryland Baltimore Global Health Initiatives through its operating arm Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC) Kenya implements comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment programs to facilitate the Kenya Ministry of Health to control the spread of HIV and rapidly scale up HIV services, institute continuous quality improvement methods as well as the M & E infrastructure necessary to support these
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct laboratory assessments in regard to capacity, quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory needs.
Provide technical assistance in rapid HIV tests, hematology and clinical chemistry tests, CD4 Testing, point of care (POC) and HIV Viral Load Sample Transport Network.
Carry out laboratory capacity building, assist in managing in-county laboratory logistics and provide technical assistance;
To provide technical assistance to facility-level laboratory personnel, including regular and systematic observation of laboratory testing procedures, and ongoing bench-level supportive supervision and instruction
To provide technical assistance to facility-level laboratory managers, including: establishing routine workflow; developing/refining SOPs, job aids, log books, and referral forms as needed; planning of lab activities to improve test performance and decrease turnaround time; and developing and implementing an equipment maintenance program
Support health care facilities and County team to forecast their reagent needs, and ensure timely distribution of reagents to the health care facilities from the National laboratory supply chain mechanism;
To help implement and monitor efficient documentation of laboratory results at the sites, as well as effective linkages between laboratory and clinical services
Laboratory troubleshooting with regards to equipment and interpretation of results.
Facilitate educational programs to internal and external providers.
To prepare reports on progress of each site on project implementation activities.
To participate in technical working groups at the national and county levels.
Bachelors’ degree or higher diploma training in laboratory related field
Registration with the laboratory board.
Over five (5) years’ experience in supporting strengthening of laboratory systems and practices at County and Health Facilities.
Working knowledge of quality assurance systems including pertinent national and international regulations and guidance: implementation of SLMTA/SLIPTA/ ISO15189, CQI.
Familiar with Laboratory Information Management System (LMIS), new technologies_SMS/mLab, KHIS, HCMP, GX Alert.
