United Nations Environment Programme Assistant Project Officer Jobs in Kenya


Job Purpose

  • Support implementation, coordination, and development of UNEP’s Somalia Country Programme, with focus on JOSP and associated projects (RESTORE and Maareynta).

  • Provide cross‑programme coordination, resource mobilization, project development, communications, and operational support.

  • Report directly to the Programme Manager, JOSP Somali project, Disasters and Conflicts Branch.

    Work Assignments & Outputs

    Programme and Project Coordination Support

  • Coordinate and implement UNEP activities across Somalia Country Programme.

  • Maintain schedules, trackers, and contact databases.

  • Liaise with consortium partners, Somali government, and stakeholders.

  • Provide logistical and documentation support for missions and meetings.

    Support to Project Development and Resource Mobilisation

  • Prepare concept notes, project ideas, and briefing materials.

  • Contribute to funding proposals and donor engagement materials.

  • Track project development processes and approvals.

    Communications, Knowledge Management, and Visibility

  • Draft and edit communications content (stories, newsletters, web, social media).

  • Prepare presentations and briefing slides.

  • Ensure adherence to UNEP and donor visibility requirements.

  • Draft talking points and key messages for events.

    Meetings, Workshops, and Event Support

  • Organize meetings, workshops, and trainings.

  • Draft minutes, summaries, and track follow‑up actions.

  • Support UNEP participation in consortium and donor coordination meetings.

    Reporting, Documentation, and Administrative Support

  • Contribute inputs to progress updates and
    donor reports.

  • Maintain organized electronic and physical files.

  • Support data compilation, qualitative analysis, and documentation.

  • Maintain shared folders and digital repositories.

    Qualifications & Special Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting environmental, development, or humanitarian projects.

  • Experience in project coordination, communications, events, or administrative support within international organizations or NGOs required.

  • Proven writing and editing skills; facilitation skills desired.

  • Experience working with multi‑disciplinary teams required.

  • Experience in Somalia or similar fragile contexts desirable.

    Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
