UN Regional Service Centre at Entebbe French Language Teacher Jobs in Uganda


Scope and method

  • The IC will organize a three months language cycle consisting of two courses on a weekly basis for each level, beginners and intermediate. The IC will develop all the required training materials including PowerPoint presentations, handouts as well as group work exercises.

  • He/she will conduct placement tests prior to the course and will place applicants according to United Nations Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE) their respective levels. He/she will conduct tests at the end of every course and communicate the results to the participants. He/she could be assigned other duties as well as additional training programmes by the CHRO as the need arises.

    Specific Tasks to be performed by the IC:

  • Submit a work plan for the 3 Months. Towards the end of the contract RSCE – HRTMU will review progress made and based on the demand for the training request for an extension of an additional 3 months.

  • Conduct language classes to RSCE staff and prepare all teaching materials and examinations material with logistical support from RSCE – HRTMU such as office space and other materials that will facilitate his/her work.

  • Plan and prepare well-structured, clearly presented lessons appropriate to the abilities
    of all students and the syllabus being taught.

  • Participate in the course preparation and correcting students’ work as well as
    consulting with students.

  • Prepare placement tests and place participants according to their respective levels.

  • Engage in pedagogical activities (outside the teaching responsibilities).

  • Monitor and record attendance and report it to the CHRO.

  • Make sure that the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates learning.

  • Conduct a monthly test to assess the participants progress and report the result to the
    CHRO.

  • Answer specific needs linked to the general objectives of the RSCE Language Programme.

  • Conduct a final test at the end of each course.

  • Perform any other duties as required.

    Outcome of the IC:

  • In addition to writing training reports, the IC will prepare a quarterly report with a complete listing of activities accomplished and the number of personnel reached by staff category.

    Documentation:

  • The IC will submit to CHRO a list of participant attendance and evaluation sheets for each workshop organized as well as tests results.

    Education:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in French language teaching, applied linguistics, linguistics, and literature or language pedagogy
    is required. Advanced university degrees should come from a university or equivalent institution at which French is the language of instruction.

  • An advanced university degree with special emphasis on the theory and practice of teaching French as a foreign language to adult learners is desirable.

    Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of recent experience teaching French as a foreign language to adults, which may come from a variety of corporate, academic and other professional settings is required.

  • Experience in developing materials to teach French as a foreign language is desirable.
    Teaching experience at an international level in a multicultural environment is desirable.

  • Experience in word-processing, database applications and in using the information and
    communication technologies to teach French as a foreign language is desirable.

  • Planning & Organizing – Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies;
    identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates
    appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

    Languages:

  • Fluency in oral and written French is required (Candidates must have French as their main language). Working knowledge of English is required.
