Purpose of the Assignment:

Quality assurance of the baseline –quantitative and qualitative survey for the EU-SHARE project entitled multi-sectoral interventions for improved nutrition.

Specific Assignment

Under the supervision of the M&E specialist (P2), the consultant will be responsible for:

1) Supervising the data collection process, both qualitative and quantitative data

2) Checking the quality of the data entry mask, raw data and the analysis performed

3) Delivering technical comments, corrections and suggestions for improvement of the final report, which includes the data analysis, results and interpretations.

The consultant will communicate with the contracted company for the completion of the baseline survey.

The consultant is expected to review systematically all the technical components of the documents prepared by the firm and supervise the field work (data collection).

For the data collection, the work will be focused on:

  • Training of the enumerators. Make sure a sufficient level of information is given to the enumerators.
  • Selection of the respondents. For the quantitative data, ensure a random selection is respected. For the qualitative data, check that the key informants and the panels for the
  • Focus Group Discussions are selected on a relevant way, in line with the needs.
  • Completion of the questionnaires: ensure the questionnaires are reviewed every day by the supervisors of the enumerators. Make sure that the enumerators go back to the respondents if information were wrongly captured.

    For the data entry, consultant will:-

  • Check the da entry maks prepared by the firm
  • Ensure that method used for data entry is meant to avoid mistakes.
  • For the data analysis, the focus will be put on:-

  • Ensure that the data analysis method used answers the research questions pertaining to the objectives of the project.
  • Make sure
    that the data analysis process provides sufficient information and it is statistically relevant.
  • Check the syntax files (analysis to be done using SPSS software).

    For the final report, the area of focus will be:

    -Results: check the accuracy.
  • Check the consistency between the data extract form the analysis and those presented in the report
  • Interpretation and discussion of thefindings: make sure that all the findings are directly derived from collected data and interpretations arealigned withthe findings and are pertinent.

    Expected Deliverables

  • Field work (data collection): provide with regular feedbacks on the ongoing work. Prepare and share with UNICEF a report on the quality of data collection at the end of the process.- March 2017
  • Data entry quality check - March-April 2017
  • Data quality and analysis check. A report on quality of data is expected - April 2017
  • Review of the final report. Relevant technical comments and recommendations are shared with UNICEF CO. (The review will continue until the finalization of the document by the firm)- April-May 2017

    Qualifications of Successful Candidate

    Education

  • An advanced University Degree Public Health, Nutrition,
  • Statistics or related fields.

    Years of relevant experience

  • At least three (3) years of progressively advanced work experience in nutrition, food security , public health in Ethiopia or abroad
  • Previous experience in carrying out similar assignment (surveys, studies, qualitative and quantitative analysis) in the fields of nutrition, food security and/or health.

    Language requirements

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • At least a local Ethiopian language is essential
