Job summary/purpose

  • The jobholder will be responsible for managing the Bank’s Agriculture
    sector business and participate in the activities/ processes leading to
    the achievement of setstrategic targetsincluding financial, socioeconomic and impactgoalswithin the sector alongside other dept initiatives.

    Accounatability Statement

  • The position holderis accountable for the overall performance of the Agriculture sector within the bank, including delivery of various
    institutional targets in the sector.

  • He/she will be required to regularly
    review trends in the sector, develop and implement appropriate strategies& initiatives and trigger meaningful change in the sector.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities

    The senior investment manager will be responsible for;

  • For drivingoverall growth of the Agriculture portfolio in line with the
    Bank’s High Impact Goals, including effectively managing the qualitative and quantitative growth of the Bank’s investment
    portfolio in agriculture.

  • Build sustainable and meaningful strategic relations across the agriculture value chain

  • Proactively manage feedbackof related stakeholders and suggest informed actions to address any emerging issues.

  • Regularly review the agriculture project process flows with the intent of optimizing process efficiencies &customer experience

  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks within the credit process with
    potential to endanger healthy relations with customers

  • Work closely with various teams to track and ensure programs are
    aligned to the institutional strategy and frameworks, and provide
    feedback on/address areas of deviation

  • Cultivate/inspire a high-performance culture within his/her team

  • Provide periodic budget monitoring reports to the bank teams to guide in decision making with the aim of meeting institutional

  • Provide expertise, advice, and training to unit staff to build their understanding of Agriculture finance, conditions, and standards to ensure that programs are delivered with minimized compliance risk; and work collaboratively with relevant departments to train and build capacity of staff.

  • Collaborate with other departments to build, implement guidelines, procedures, standards, work processes, manuals, metrics, and methodologies for a successful and comprehensive credit management system applicable to agriculture and other related
    programs in the bank.

  • Timely and accurate reporting to specific stakeholders as may be


  • (S)he will also coordinate the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual reports on the agriculture sector.

  • Any other such roles that may be
    assigned from time to time

    Level of Authority

  • Draft related policies, strategies and plans, and motivate management on to take appropriate decisions/courses of
    actionwith regard to the agriculture sector

  • In consultation with the head of dept, make decisions on issues concerning his team/sector.

  • Direct investments in agriculture in line with the banks High Impact



  • All UDB Departments


  • external stakeholders including business associations,

  • Bank and prospective customers.



  • A master’s degree in any business field.

  • University degree in Agriculture or any other related field of study.

  • Possession of other professional qualifications in agriculture finance
    or membershipof a related professional institution or association will
    bean added advantage.


  • Seven (07) years’ experience in agriculture finance - with specific
    exposure to financing micro, medium to large agriculture projects across the value chain;

  • Three (3) years should be at a management position in a reputable

  • Hands on experience in key processes like deal origination, agriculture project proposal writing, appraisal and related processes.

  • Knowledge of development banking and project finance is desirable


  • Self-motivated, flexible, and exhibiting maturity

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to manage a diverse team of professionals

  • Strong analytical and financial analysis skills; experience in using
    financial models is an added advantage

  • Ability to operate effectively across organizational boundaries

  • Business acumen

  • Good negotiation skills with the ability to interact with and influence

  • Customer service orientation
