Summary The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) is a membership-based NGO that seeks to enhance the conservation and wise use of the environment and natural resources in East Africa for the benefit of current and future generations. We are seeking an energetic, innovative and visionary new team member who will assist in building upon our more than 60 years of experience and leadership in the conservation sector, by enhancing our impacting on environmental matters in target regions of East Africa.
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Head of Advocacy, the Communications Manager will be in charge of overseeing all internal and external communications of the organisation, ensuring its message is consistent and engaging. He/she will provide leadership and strategic direction to the Society’s communications and public relations activities. He/She will ensure that East African Wild Life Society communicates impact of its advocacy work as well as its conservation programmes and to assist in brand building and fundraising related duties.
Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage activities of the Communications department including all digital media and print productions
Develop and implement communications strategies for both internal and external communications
Work closely with the Head of Advocacy to determine strategic communications campaigns that will help further organizational goals
Develop and implement communications campaigns and strategies and monitor their success
In charge of developing all communications materials and messages.
Define key performance indicators for each communications channel that will monitor campaign's level of success
Create internal communications protocols and initiatives that will foster improved internal communications and foster employees to be brand ambassadors
Implement the organization’s strategic plan in order to increase visibility and brand awareness
Reach out to influencers, mainstream media and beyond in order to arrange story placements at regional and national levels.
Develop and manage relationships with key media players to secure and grow media online and offline coverage
Identify, network and build relationships with key collaboration partners Including donors, governments, media owners, editors, reporters, producers and bloggers to build an ally media base
and increase positive visibility for EAWLS
Organize events and exhibitions necessary for fundraising and brand visibility
Communicate brand values to both internal staff and external stakeholders
Represent the organization at events and press conferences as may be required
Any other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations, or other related fields
A Masters will be an added advantage.
More Details on Experience
Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience at a similar level
Excellent writing skills (writing press releases and organizing press visits will be an added advantage);
Knowledge and understanding of communications practices, tools and techniques in social media.
Hands-on multi-media skills (desktop publishing, film, photography);
Good knowledge of IT (is an added advantage);
An understanding of, and vocational interest in, environmental conservation, international development, NGO sector and other related fields would be preferred
Excellent oral and written English and Kiswahili
Demonstrate creativity in developing relevant marketing content
