The Brooke Hospital for Animals – Ethiopia (Brooke Ethiopia- BE) is a Branch of the UK charity, Brooke Hospital for Animals; dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules and the livelihoods of the communities that depend on them.



BE is a registered Foreign Charity in Ethiopia which started its programme in Ethiopia in 2006. We currently work in Oromiya West Arsi zone of 7 woredas and SNNPRS in 9 woredas of Sidama zone, Gedo zone and Halaba special woreda.


Brooke Ethiopia is currently inviting qualified candidates (Ethiopian nationals) to apply for the role of Country Representative. We are looking for a highly proactive, ambitious and experienced individual to be responsible for leading the Brooke Ethiopia’s programme, directing an experienced team and collaborating with others across Brooke’s global programme.


Leading the Country programme you will be a strong networker, have strong knowledge of the Ethiopian NGO context, and experience in developing and fulfilling funding relationships with external donors.


Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership of Brooke’s Business in the Country or Region.

Indicators of performance include:

  • Programme based on excellent local analysis that guide management choices
  • On-going investigation of the potential to expand and grow, including through partnership
  • Programme delivered in accordance with Brooke policies and standards,
  • Systems and structures achieve efficiencies
  • Excellent budget & asset management

    Excellent Programme/Project performance delivering change for working equines. Indicators of performance include that the programme will be run on the basis of:

  • Coverage and uptake numbers in line with plans
  • Programme delivery assessments
  • Evidence of innovation and learning that is shaping the programme

    An energetic, diverse, motivated and skilled team. Indicators of performance include that the programme will be run on the basis of:

  • Evidence and feedback from visits
  • HR metrics and feedback
  • Training and succession management

    Accurate and effective representation of the programme to others inside and outside Brooke Indicators of performance include that the programme will be run on the basis of:

  • Engagement across ISLT to promote learning and shared understanding
  • Knowledge by others of the Brooke’s work in country/region


    Qualifications


  • Knowledge of international development practice and excellence
  • Excellent knowledge of the country/region of operation as it relates to equine wellbeing
  • Knowledge of Sphere and other key humanitarian standards including sustainable livelihoods debates and CHS.
  • Knowledge of proposal writing, assessment and financial management
  • Knowledge of at least one of Brooke’s three strategic
    pillars: Animal Welfare, Community Engagement, or Advocacy
  • Excellent knowledge of IT programmes (Microsoft Office Suite) and social networking platforms for use in your work
  • Strategic development and analysis for portfolio expansion
  • A culturally sensitive communicator and manager able to develop trust, motivation and commitment
  • Excellent communication skills in English using IT
  • Fluent in Amharic
  • This is a Senior Leadership role and candidates are required to demonstrate a strong track record at a senior level (minimum 5 years) in providing vision and strategic leadership to the development of a country programme and minimum of MA or MSC in a field relevant to Leadership and management in international development.
  • Brooke Ethiopia has ambitions to extend its reach across the country and is looking for a senior leader to deliver this. Demonstrable experience of working in the international development sector, the leadership of teams to establish strategic direction, strong direction and oversight of budgeted plans and allocation of work with high performance and accountability to the UK Head office is essential.
