Thanda is currently seeking a Head of Partnership Development, who will be based in our Administrative office in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. There is however potential for 2/3 days per week to be worked remotely.

This is a full time position. This position is ideal for someone looking to live close to the ocean to swim, surf, hike, and enjoy the beautiful nature on the South Coast. The culture at Thanda is one of passion, energy, hard work, a good sense of humour.

The ideal candidate for this job will be someone who has experience developing and implementing strategic plans for attracting partners (individuals, corporates, and foundations) and who can create new and innovative ways to engage with each of our partners.

This role requires high levels of responsibility, energy, and enthusiasm.
The Head of Partnership Development is a key leadership team member and an active participant in making decisions that help drive strategy and innovation at Thanda.

The Head of Partnership Development is responsible for developing comprehensive fundraising strategies focused on identifying, cultivating and leveraging financial and in-kind support to increase Thanda’s visibility, impact and financial resources.

While a background in fundraising may be useful for this role, it is not essential. We are looking for someone has innovative ideas, is a critical thinker, and is exciting about creating new ways to engage with our funders and partners.

    Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree

    Necessary Skills, Experience and Attitude:
  • Excellent manager and team-player with at least 1 year of proven management experience
  • Significant fundraising / entrepreneurial / sales / business skills and experience
  • Experience in strategic planning
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable personality
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks on tight timelines
  • Relationship-orientated - highly skilled in developing and sustaining positive relationships with donors
  • Ability to conduct prospect research
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Results-oriented with a friendly, collaborative approach and a team-oriented style
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • High levels of responsibility, energy, and enthusiasm

  • Develop a comprehensive Fundraising and Partnership Strategy each year
  • Collaborate with leadership team and Executive Director to establish monthly, quarterly and annual revenue targets (cash and in-kind) to ensure that the entire organisational budget will be funded.
  • Collaborate with leadership team to analyse budget trends, and identify sustainable, scalable and effective approaches to achieving the organisation’s mission.
  • Develop a detailed and comprehensive strategy to ensure that revenue targets are met through contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • This strategy should include expanding and diversifying Thanda’s donor base and funding sources, and should include a focus on creating new initiatives in addition to maintaining ongoing, existing relationships.
  • This strategy should include fundraising & partnership activities and incorporate marketing, and communications activities.
  • Identify and establish the infrastructure needed to effectively implement strategy in order to meet revenue and partnership targets.
  • Continuously review and evaluate strategy and, where necessary and in consultation with the leadership team, revise strategy.
  • Hire and manage qualified staff that carries out partnership, marketing, and communications activities Direct, plan and coordinate the work of the staff including supervision, coaching, evaluation, training and team-building
  • Organise and attend weekly team, departmental or leadership meetings to ensure proactive planning, inter-organizational collaboration and effective communication
  • Provide guidance and oversight for implementation of a major donor cultivation and stewardship program
  • Work with grant-writing consultant to apply for new funding and grant opportunities
  • Compile monthly, quarterly and annual partnership statistics and develop reports for staff, board and stakeholders
  • Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts
  • Continuously work to identify and execute new strategies that systematically and effectively strengthen the organization's overall fundraising capacity
  • Actively participate in sharing the mission, vision and values of the organization, internally and externally, creating a culture of active philanthropy for and through all staff
  • Establish departmental policies and procedures
  • Oversee income analysis of U.S. and international gifts
  • Manage department budget and reports
  • Liaise with U.S. fiscal sponsor

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing funders and donors

  • Organise corporate volunteer and funder opening events as necessary
