Terre des hommes Social Empowerment Assistant Jobs in Dadaab, Kenya Organizational BackgroundTerre des hommes (Tdh) launched its activities in Kenya in January 2011.
Tdh provides support to children in Dadaab refugee camp and in Korogocho slums.
In response to the Dadaab Refugee protracted crisis, Tdh projects deliver child protection interventions and support to children in alternative care arrangements, provisions of case management and psychosocial services to vulnerable children, strengthening community-based structures as well as building advocacy efforts on child protection issues.
Develop Behavior Change Communication tools and materials to improve knowledge, attitude and practice of life skills choices for beneficiaries and their eco-system.
Support training of community leaders, religious leaders, parents and caregivers on Child protection concepts.
Provide trainings and monitoring to the Community’s Own Resource Persons on Child protection and strengthening their abilities to take lead in community-based child protection response.
Identify skills and knowledge gaps related to community-based interventions on empowerment activities and address them through training and capacity building.
Ensure that life-skills interventions are implemented in accordance with project design and within the approved budgets, and in accordance with Tdh policies and strategies including adherence to the recommended standards and commitments to accountability and quality.
Work closely with the Empowerment Senior Officer in the development of project concept notes, work plans and proposals.
CP Awareness, information, behavior change and advocacy in the Host/Refugee community through participating in awareness campaigns, information forums, radio sessions and information dissemination at the child friendly helpdesks and community led forums.
To be responsible to conduct proper recording, documentation for all the children and their caregiver seeking child protection services and information at the sectional level.
Provide proper leadership and supervision of the CORPS ensuring that they are able to deliver on their mandate and conducting on job training for them.
Reports incidents and difficulties encountered with any CP staff or community worker to advocacy and empowerment officer or CP project manager.
Ensure community and staff working under Tdh are adequately trained/informed and observes to Tdh child safeguarding and other risk management policies.
Ensure that assigned activities are appropriately implemented and, when necessary, ideas on amendments deemed will be shared with the Help Desk officer and Empowerment Senior Officer.
Participates in weekly team planning meetings and prepares timely activity/training plans.
Develop Purchase requests of upcoming activities and share with Empowerment Senior officer for verification before approval by the Field Coordinator.
Project Strategy and planning
Participates in CP assessments.
Participate in the review of the strategy for Tdh in Kenya if requested.
Information dissemination and advocacy
Sharing and provision of appropriate child protection information to support decision making on voluntary repatriation and sustained protection for the children remaining in the camps.
Supports in child led advocacy campaigns, mass awareness and special events for the Host/refugee community throughout the project period.
Conduct training for new and refresher training and mentorship for old children (Child Council members, peer-to-peers network members, child rights clubs members and Children’s Ombudsman) to reinforce knowledge on Child
Protection topics and provide information on any emerging issues such as Volrep or camp consolidation to strengthen child participation on issues affecting them.
Life skills training and provision of start-up kits and nurturing kits for the babies (0-5) for vulnerable girl mothers to enhance income generated activities as a source of livelihood support.
Participates in the development and organisation of awareness activities in close consultation with Help desk Officers, Social
Empowerment Officers and Case management Officers.
Contributes and Participates in the preparation and implementation of special events and adolescents led tournaments at community level.
Ensures correct data collection, recording, filing and protection procedures are upheld.
Documentation of the conducted activities, documenting of human-interest stories and case studies.
Monitoring and evaluation
Participates in a base line survey and evaluation of the CP projects.
Work closely with Tdh M&E team in ensuring activities and indicators are monitored well using M&E monitoring tools.
Contributes to the training and capacity building on CP topics targeting community workers, Children, community structures, Partner agencies workers, Child protection volunteers and host community members.
Supports and works in coordination with all CP team, community leaders Child protection committees and other relevant camp-based actors in all steps of project implementation.
Participates in weekly team meetings, cluster weekly meeting.
Participates in case conference meetings at section level.
Represents Tdh in inter-agency meetings.
Represents Tdh in the community level.
Develops a community network to facilitate the project acceptance and ownership.
Provide feedback on issues discussed during various meeting attended.
Participates in weekly meetings and weekly planning activities.
Provides accurate and timely activity, weekly, monthly, monitoring and assessment reports.
Maintain and ensure a culture of strict confidentiality – inter Tdh staff and between Tdh staff and non Tdh employees.
Upon completion of the assignment, submits detailed handover notes when leaving for annual leave.
Completes and meets the deadline of all assigned work.
Participating in the monthly report drafting process.
Comply with Tdh Security Regulations.
Reports any security/safety incident and/or risk to the CP project manager and field coordinator.
Child Protection Policy
Commit to respect the Child Protection Policy.
Report serious cases of abuse on children identified by the Child Protection team to the CP Program Manager.
Strict confidentiality must be respected.
Undertake all other duties that may be determined by the Help Desk officer, Empowerment Senior Officer and CP project manager and that are compatible with the job.
This position requires Personal, Social and Leadership competencies (PSLC), Technical and methodological competencies (TMC)
Minimum Diploma/degree in Business Studies, Social science, Social Work, Community Development, Development studies or related field from a recognized institution
At least 2 years’ experience working with community development and livelihoods, preferably in a refugee setting.
Proven experience in cash-based intervention.
Proven experience managing community dialogues and working directly with beneficiaries.
Competence using information technology including experience with word-processing, spreadsheets and database software.
Languages: Fluency in English, Somali and Kiswahili.

Commit to ensure the best implementation possible of the Tdh Risk Management Policies.
Commit to inform supervisors and to deal with any cases, allegations, or possibility of transgression, even potential, of the Tdh Risk Management Policies.
