Location: Flexible with the possibility of working remotely with frequent travel to the regional office

Contract Type: Full time – 40 hours a week

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Regional Director (RD), and in close collaboration with SIHA Program team particularly SIHA Head of Finance and Administration, the Fundraising & Programme Development Officer (FPDO) will be responsible for identifying programmatic priorities and funding opportunities, developing concept notes and proposals and drafting activities budget and logframes, while working on building partnerships with like-minded agencies, and liaising with donors and potential partners. SIHA is a growing organization and is seeking candidates capable of contributing to this growth and assisting SIHA to make important impacts on women and girls’ well-being in the Horn of Africa.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The FPDO is expected to carry the following key responsibilities:

  • Identify relevant areas of programming and funding opportunities and compile and write funding applications;

  • Carry research on women rights and gender equality challenges within the region and suggest programs and initiatives for the SIHA program team;

  • Compile and maintain a database of local and international donors and follow up on donors’ news, and fundraising opportunities;

  • Collaborate with SIHA program team in designing fundraising strategy;

  • Develop concept notes and proposals in consultation with relevant staff members and partners;

    i. To build the capacity of partner agencies and integrate them in proposal-writing processes;

    ii. Participate in the promotion of SIHA work and locally and regionally;

  • Liaise and communicate with donors as per direction;

  • Work closely with SIHA Regional Programmes Coordinator and suggest fundraising and / or communication and events as per request and to support programme implementation when needed.

    Profile:

    The candidate for this position must have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Strong combination of studies and work experience in the
    fields of human rights, and social development in the African context, East and Horn of Africa and/ or/Middle East & North Africa;

  • Strong academic background, with Masters-level education is preferable or equivalent work experience;

  • Have at least 5 years of work experience in a management position in the field of social development, and /or human rights preferably within civil society, human rights NGOs or donor organizations, with preference being focused work in social development and /or the human rights field and similar sectors;

  • Have proven experience and understanding of project cycle management, including monitoring and evaluation, results-based management, technical and financial reporting;

  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities;

  • Flexibility and ability to shift priorities based on changes of context and ability to shift priorities within short notice;

  • Good understanding of South Sudan political and social context, and knowledge of the regional and international mechanisms/dynamics influencing the region;

  • Understanding of the risks associated with civil society work in South Sudan;

  • Strong writing skills – fluency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite, with knowledge of other regional languages an added value;

  • Strong communication, networking and advocacy skills;

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage priorities, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;

  • Previous exposure to international and/or multicultural /multilingual environment – Able to function effectively within a multi-cultural team;

  • Strong sense of initiative and creativity is desirable;

  • Strong analytical and research skills are important for this post

  • Curiosity, willingness to ‘learn while doing’ and a strong and genuine interest in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Horn women and girls and their strengths and challenges, is essential.
