  • A State Agency in the security and administration of justice sector seeks to recruit a competent officer to fill vacant positions in its establishment.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Legal Officer I will be reporting to the Senior Legal Officer.

  • The overall duty is to provide efficient and effective Legal Services to the Agency and its stakeholders.

    Specific duties include:

  • Drafting Legal instruments;

  • Conducting Advocacy and sensitization trainings;

  • Advising the Agency Stakeholders on matters relating to the Agency;

  • Conducting Legal Research; Providing legal advice and assistance on all legal and factual matters pertaining to the work of the Agency while ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency;

  • Participating in the conduct of legal audit and preparation of statutory reports;

  • Anticipating and offering solutions to legal and procedural problems and issues that might arise in the course of the performance of the duties;

  • Ensuring that the Agency complies with the spirit and letter of the constitution;

  • Drafting court documents, filing and attending court for hearing of the applications;

  • Representing the Agency in proceedings pertaining to matters under the mandate of the Agency as required;

  • Contributing to the development of the division’s Work plan, annual budget and procurement plan;

  • Participating in negotiations, and drafting contracts and other legal documents;

  • Providing effective support to other departments in negotiations and evaluations and report on the success of each agreement negotiated against outcomes and expectations; and

  • Performing any other duties required.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    For appointment to this grade, an applicant must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law from recognized University;

  • Be an advocate of High Court of Kenya with a Valid Practice Certificate;

  • Must have served as legal Officer II for a period of
    three (3) years or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service or private sector for a minimum period of three (3) years; and

  • Compliance to Chapter 6 and Article 10 of the Constitution

  • Note: For all the positions, the candidates must, in addition, possess the following attributes: high integrity; ability to make appropriate decisions; self-driven and motivated; professionalism; strong communication and good interpersonal skills; be a team player and have respect for diversity; have ability to maintain confidentiality; and be computer literate.

  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission

  • Credit Reference Bureau

  • Any professional body to which the candidate is a member

  • Clearance certificates from the above mentioned bodies are to be availed during interview by those shortlisted.
