Job Purpose

• To develop specific BI solutions through software engineering in order to enable data profiling, visualisation, reporting, analysis and actuarial pricing for the Insurance Business.

• To ensure that data is available in a useable format for visualisation, reporting, analysis and actuarial modeling purposes.

• To manage, analyse, test, reconcile and sign-off data-mart development for the insurance data-mart

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Discovery phase – requirements elicitation

• Investigates and researches possible solutions in order to develop the most appropriate data solution for profiling, visualisation or reporting requirements.

• Compiles actions plans that stipulates the work break down required to resolve the data profiling, visualisation or reporting challenge.

• Tests logic of findings and action plans across all platforms with the feature development team in order to ensure that the correct components are built without duplication.

• Action plans meets all requirements

• Quality of investigations

• Solution covers all data scenarios

• Timeous output of solutions

Software engineering / development

• Designs effective solutions by following the appropriate development path (e.g., development phase, CIT, SIT, etc.).

• Showcases the various development paths in order to obtain team and developer feedback.

• Ensures that solution meets all design and governance standards whilst adhering to the broader EIM architecture.

• Ensures that data is in a format that is useable for business stakeholders.

Measures:

• Actual solution functions in production and meets business requirements

• Actual solution Fits into business strategic objectives

Maintenance and sustainability

• Designs solutions that drive re-usability within the Insurance ecosystem.

• Ensures that productionalized code and batch runs are maintained to ensure that customer queries and system / production errors are effectively minimized.

Measures:

• Up time of solutions deployed

• Number of production issues are contained and effectively addressed

• Ability of code to be re-used

Stakeholder management

• Represents the team at relevant stakeholder meetings

• Ensure development team is delivering as per Sprint deliverables and ensure relevant UAT is done

• Actively engages with stakeholders to fulfil and deliver the Information Management objectives.

Measures:

Quality of Sprint planning, business priority finalisation and subsequent delivery

• Quality of monthly updates

• Frequency and format of stakeholder engagement

• Stakeholder feedback

Data and IT governance and standards

• Adheres to governance processes to manage the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of data usability.

• Adheres to compliance standards and ensure Role specific access control is maintained

• Conducts regression testing across all relevant systems as required.

Measures:

• Level of adherence to governance standards and business rules

• Signed off regression testing

People Management

• Identifies key toolsets and competencies required for this capability and builds it for the future.

• Ensures that adequate training and development is provided for team members

• Creates quarterly leave plans to ensure adequate coverage. Approves leave requests and leave sell requests.

• When required, initiates disciplinary processes for team members. Resolves grievances raised by team members, escalating only if unresolved.

Measures:

• PDP in place for all technical resources.

• Effective people management (e.g. performance appraisal discussions conducted; performance contracts in place; job descriptions in place and kept up to date).

Minimum Qualification and Experience

  • IT and/or Computer Sciences Degree

  • Diploma in software engineering, informatics

    Experience Requirments:

  • 5-7 Years Experience in developing solutions and general system development. Experience in technical business intelligence; understanding of insurance data processes, systems, and products.

  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and data principles that form the basis for data quality management.

  • Experience in structured and unstructured query languages e.g. SQL IBM data-stage, SAS Python, etc.
