Standard Bank Manager - New Business, Diners Club Corporate Jobs in South Africa

Job Purpose

  • Contribute to the strategic and operational planning of the business area by assisting the Diners Club Business Development Manager in achieving strategic new business targets. The role will also require relationship management with Group channels.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    Support the creation and execution of business development plans by:

    • Collaborating and representing the Diners Club corporate product value proposition via the Business and Commercial Banking channels, as well as outside of the Bank i.e. stand-alone customers.

    • Execute the new business strategy aligned to key strategic drivers

    • Have a good understanding of the Credit, Financial, Accounting, and Business environments

    • Utilise data, business intelligence and management information required to achieve new business targets

    • Execute on agreed marketing initiatives, campaigns, and any strategic communication plans into the appropriate, targeted segments

    • Maintain profitability and prudent risk management

    • Ensure the activation of newly onboarded accounts and maintain appropriate impairments management

    Key performance measure

    Provide analytical and managerial information

    • Produce supporting information, accurate, effective, and timely feedback reports to relevant parties within deadlines

    • Develop and drive relationships with key stakeholders within the business and seek ways to work with greater efficiency and effectiveness.

    • Work closely with the Business Development Manager in the co-ordination of activities and reporting.

    Ensure efficient stakeholder management

    • Engage with the Diners Club acquiring team and corporate merchants to facilitate business to business (B2B) turnover

    • Work closely with relevant channel and segment Heads to drive results

    • Maintain relationships within SBSA Business and Commercial Banking and SBSA Wholesale, Segment Ecosystem Managers & CST Teams

    • Operate within the stipulated internal and centralised systems and processes

    • Maintain a high-quality level of service to all clients, service providers and stakeholders.

    • Ensure that contact with channel is regular and relevant.

    Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Diners Club Business Development Operating Model

    • Assist the Business Development Manager
    with Ecosystems and Business to Business (B2B) research to drive the strategy

    • Assist the Business Development Manager to deliver improved efficiency and effectiveness of the Diners Club operating model

    • Proactively embrace and contribute to the culture of innovation and change.

    • Maintain agreed Service Level Agreements with both internal and external clients.

    Compliance, Risk and Control

    • Maintain an awareness and comply with all regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to Diners Club, Standard Bank and relevant to the job/role.

    • Understand the new products process journey through relevant controlling committees for regulatory and compliance purposes.

    Engaged and Empowered Employees

    • Be involved and participate in the Learning and Development Programmes.

    • Maintain an updated Personal Development Plan and Enduring Performance Management contract.

    Minimum Qualification and Experience

  • Grade 12 (matric) and a tertiary qualification – Business or Commerce.

  • A professional qualification in a relevant subject would be advantageous.

  • FAIS accreditation (non client facing).


    • Minimum 3 – 5 years in a sales / target driven environment.

    • An appreciation of market segment strategies.

    • Experience of planning and delivering sales campaigns.

    • Ability to gather statistical information and analysis.


    • AS 400 (optional)

    • Computer literacy.

    • Code of Banking Practice.

    • Understanding of the Diners Club and/or Card business (advantageous).

    • Understanding of the financial, credit and risk management environments.
