    Job Summary

  • St Andrew’s, Turi is seeking to appoint a Legal & Compliance Officer (LCO) responsiblefor the School’s Legal, Secretarial & Compliance needs.

    About the Role

  • Reporting to the Board of Governors & Finance & Strategy Director, this position isresponsible to ensure the school’s company secretarial needs are met. In addition tothat wider compliance (external & internal), as well as being first level review for alllegal matters.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Lawor relevant discipline.

    • High Court Advocate,with practicing certificate.

    • Certified Company Secretary.

    • ICPSK registration, with apracticing certificate.

    Knowledge

    • A demonstrable understanding of the principles of Companylegal & complianceneeds & requirements.

    • IT systems literate.

    • A commitment topromoting andsafeguarding thewelfare of children.

    • Understanding of wider legal& compliance benchmarkswithin Kenya and worldwide.

    Experience

    • 5-7 years’ experience inCompany Secretarialwork.

    • A track record ofsuccess in managingCompany legal matters.

    • Ability to train staff toachieve high compliancelevels.

    • Demonstrated ability towork effectively in amulticultural team.

    • Ability to achieve riskmanagement goals

    • Ability to take initiative toidentify opportunities andtake appropriate action,organize and managemultiple priorities, workunder pressure and meetdeadlines.

    • Proven ability to lead andmotivate teams andindividuals without beingtheir line manager.

    Responsibilities

    The & Legal Compliance Officer’s KPIs include:

    • Company Secretarial (40%) o Seamless support as Board Clerk o Statutory compliance.

    • Other Legal & Compliance (60%) o School policies awareness, training & compliance o Risk management to mitigate all mid to high level risks.

  • Reporting, Policy drafting and development, Contractual negotiations, Email correspondence, Commercial law, Contract drafting and preparation, Contract law, Legal analysis, Dispute resolution and arbitration, Labour law.
