  • St Andrew’s, Turi, is one of the most prominent international schools in Kenya and has an outstanding reputation throughout Africa.

  • Founded as a Preparatory School for the children of expatriates in 1931, it has grown to comprise both Preparatory and Senior Schools and to welcome children of over 25 nationalities, the majority of
    whom are now African.

    The Role

  • St Andrew’s, Turi is seeking to appoint a Marketing Manager who will provide strategic direction and leadership for all marketing activities across the whole School.

  • Reporting to the Admissions and Marketing Director, this position is responsible for communicating key information about the School and generating material for the promotion of School activities as well as building a long term brand identity for the School.

  • The role has a significant strategic element to it and the appointee will be expected to work with the Director of Admissions to develop the Marketing Strategy of the School and to oversee regular market research including competitor analysis and parent satisfaction.

  • The Marketing Manager will be experienced in marketing, public relations, mass communication and on line marketing.

  • The Marketing Manager should expect to travel both within Kenya and to other African countries in order to fulfil the requirements of the position.

  • The appointment is seen as critical to the School’s success and the appointee will play a central role in the School’s development.

    customers.

    Knowledge and Experience

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • A record of good academic achievement and educated to degree level or equivalent

    Desirable

  • Relevant high level professional marketing or public relations communication qualification

    Knowledge

  • A demonstrable understanding of the principles
    of marketing, PR and communication within the independent schools’ sector

  • A clear understanding of and affinity for the
    School’s ethos

  • A commitment to promoting and safeguarding the
    welfare of children

    Desirable

  • Substantial experience of marketing and communication within the independent schools’ sector

  • IT literate with a working knowledge of relevant Google analytics, Word Press, Google Drive, and Social Media.

    Experience

    Essential

  • Significant experience of managing a marketing or customer care function in a relevant environment

  • A track record of successful marketing campaign drives with the ability to influence, motivate and persuade at all levels

  • Experience of developing strategic and tactical marketing plans.

  • The ability to write and verbally communicate messages that are clear and concise.

    Desirable

  • Working at a senior level

  • Relevant experience in an international context

  • The ability to develop and implement an integrated marketing strategy

  • Experienced in the use of different media to best effect with different audiences

  • Experience of successfully managing budgets and delivering against objectives

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams and individuals.

    Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivery of below, above and through-the-line Marketing activity

  • Content development from within the school via video, photo or articles

  • Provision of Marketing material to support the Admissions Team and enrolment process

  • Advising the school on current market research and customer insight to guide strategic decision making.

  • Management of Marketing budget

  • Line Management of the Digital marketing Executive

    Duties

    Marketing

  • Working with the Director of Admissions to develop the Marketing Strategy to achieve organizational objectives

  • Oversee regular market research to inform the School’s strategic decision making.

  • Line manage the Digital Marketing Officer.

    Admissions

  • Support the enrolment process by providing marketing literature and other tools.

  • Help raise awareness of Admissions led
    promotional activity including international promotional tours.

    Offline Marketing

  • Production of printed marketing literature:

  • Management of external photographers and photography selection.

  • Liaising with internal staff to gain required content

  • Copywriting

  • Management of external agencies to create professional literature.

    Online Marketing/Website

  • Oversee the maintenance of the School’s website to keep it fresh and relevant.

  • Planning and structure of website reporting

  • Planning and appraisal of the online communication plan

  • Overseeing the development of the online communication plan by the Digital Marketing Executive, including social media.

  • Keep up to date with digital marketing trends and implement them, where possible and appropriate.

    Branding

  • Protect and develop the brand both internally and externally

  • Raise awareness/understanding of the importance of the brand and the role of all stakeholders.

    Public Relations

  • Work with the Director of Admissions to keep the School top of mind amongst stakeholders.

  • Work with external agencies and the East African press to ensure the School receives the right amount and right kind of press coverage.

    Management

  • Line manages the Digital Marketing Executive

  • Management of the Marketing budget

    Person Specification

  • Working at St Andrew’s Prep School is an exciting and dynamic experience.

  • The successful candidate will need to be able to support the School's aims and Christian ethos.

  • They will have to have a good degree as well as a recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, and of course, the relevant experience.

  • Beyond that we want to have staff who love working as part of a team; who are first-class communicators and who are passionate about the subjects and pupils they teach; who are creative and diligent in their planning; who are adaptable,
    energetic and resilient.

  • This post would suit a current Head of Department looking for a new challenge and looking to develop their leadership skills.

  • Alternatively, the role might suit an exceptional individual with experience gained as a Teacher of Mathematics and who has a desire for greater challenge and responsibility.

  • Experience of working in a Prep School, or in boarding, would be desirable, but not essential.

    Terms and Conditions

    Remuneration

  • There is a generous overall remuneration package as detailed below (the cost of living in Kenya is significantly lower than in the UK):

  • Salary The successful applicant will be placed on the Main Pay Scale, with a Head of Department’s Allowance.

  • School fees (where applicable) there is a 100% fee remission for staff children throughout the School; places are subject to the School’s normal entry requirements. Fee remission is a taxable benefit.

  • Medical Care all members of staff and their families are covered under a comprehensive insurance scheme); the costs of insurance are fully covered by the School.

  • Pension the School operates a defined contribution pension scheme in which the employer and employee each contribute 6% of monthly salary. For employees emigrating from Kenya at the end of their contract, the full value of the contributions, plus accumulated interest, can be withdrawn from the scheme.

  • Meals these are provided during term time as a taxable benefit.

  • Facilities extensive sports facilities are open to use by staff and their families
