    Role description

  • With support from Simprints, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health (MoH) is looking for a DevOps engineer to support the Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS) project, the MoH’s flagship initiative to modernize and digitize the health system of Ethiopia.

  • eCHIS is primarily a mobile application that is built for rural health workers to deliver tailored services to families and therefore improve health outcomes.

  • It incorporates biometric technology to ensure that appropriate services are delivered to the right people at the right time, minimizing waste and waiting time, while improving continuity of care.

  • Working in this project, you will have the opportunity to leave your fingerprint in an application that will have a direct impact on the lives of millions of rural Ethiopians.

  • You will be joining a tight-knit team of 8 developers, DevOps Engineers, and domain experts (system analysts).

  • We work
    together very closely, with mutual understanding and providing support to each other.

  • This role benefits from free gym access at the MoH premises and, if interested, will also have the opportunity to participate in field-based activities to better understand existing paper-based workflows and community health systems serving Ethiopia’s most vulnerable citizens.

    Responsibilities

  • The Engineer provides technical support to the overall functioning of the eCHIS web-based and mobile software developed by the Ministry of Health.

  • The engineer works in close collaboration with the software development team members.

    Detailed responsibilities include

  • Administer and maintain the eCHIS backend infrastructure

  • Develop and implement a scale-up plan for eCHIS backend infrastructure

  • Automate server environment setups, automate provisioning access in Databases, Linux

  • Monitor, prevent, and troubleshoot security related issues

  • Monitor and troubleshoot server related issues

  • Provide assistance in testing and solving programming bugs and other issues

  • Actively participate in providing training as well as organize software demonstrations for various FMoH, Regional and Partner groups in a well-organized and professional manner

    Job Requirements

    Must-have​​Qualifications

  • Experience in server orchestration or automation/configuration management using Ansible

  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration

  • Experience in virtualization of environments, like XenServer

  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and NoSQL (Redis, CouchDB, Elasticsearch)

  • Excellent Python/Django skills

  • Experience with Docker, Kafka

    Nice-to-have Qualifications

  • Experience with Java, Tomcat
