  • The organization’s East Africa Branch (EAB) is located in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • The primary goal of SoH EAB is to address humanitarian and health crises within East Africa (Uganda, Northern Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan) while increasing capacity of local structures to deliver effective and quality humanitarian relief and development cooperation.

  • SoH provide emergency relief worldwide and regionally whilst linking relief, rehabilitation and development measures.
  • Support is provided in Health, Nutrition, WASH, Livelihoods Development, Access to Basic Education, Human Rights, Emergency Relief and Resilience Building through own-implemented and partner implemented projects and programmes.

    Job Title Regional Grants Manager

    Job Location Nairobi, Kenya with travel to SoH project locations in East Africa

    Start Date 2nd January 2019 or earlier

    Summary of core duties

  • Working closely with implementing partners on narrative and financial project proposal development and submission to institutional donors, particularly BMZ

  • Working closely with implementing partners on timely reporting and donor compliance for approved institutionally funded projects, particularly BMZ

  • Working closely with EAB colleagues and affiliates to prepare narrative and financial project proposals for own-implemented projects to institutional donors primarily for development cooperation projects (but also for Humanitarian Relief projects when requested by the East Africa Director)

  • Working closely with EAB colleagues and affiliates on timely reporting and donor compliance for approved institutionally funded own-implemented projects

  • Supporting the updating of a database of all project grants, following up on partner grant reporting when requested

  • Supporting the EAB Administrator to update a database of potential partners and project proposals received

  • Keeping updated information on donor profiles/mapping, donor pipelines, fundraising opportunities/calls for proposals

  • Timely and efficient use of the the Document Management System (DMS)

  • Pro-actively participating and engaging
    in the ongoing SoH Quality Improvement Process to ensure compliance with international standards and best practices (e.g. CHS, SPHERE, PSEA, M&E, ECHO FPA requirements)

  • Performing any other duties as requested by the East Africa Director

    Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum qualification of bachelor’s degree in development studies or a related field from any recognized institution, a relevant post-graduate qualification would be an added advantage

  • Working experience of at least 5 years working in a similar position in the East Africa region/countries.

  • Proven track record in successful institutional fundraising and grant management (in order of preference; i.e. BMZ, Europaid, USAID, ECHO, OFDA, CHF)

  • Good working knowledge of office management software like MS Office (MS Excel and MS Word)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of the German language would be an added advantage

  • Ability to convey the highest standards of integrity, transparency and professionalism throughout working


  • Duration of contract: 12 months (renewable)

  • Salary according to qualification and experience
