  • It is with this in mind that we announce the below vacancy. Transport Manager – Mombasa

    Job Purpose:

  • Reporting to the General Manager, the job holder will be responsible for planning, organizing, evaluating and managing the budget of transport department.

  • He/She will also be responsible for the transport of goods or companies involved in supply chain services.

    Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, manage and evaluate the operations and budget of transport department or subcontracted transport companies.

  • Manage the activities of staff, contracted third parties and contract carriage systems in relation to transport operations including dispatching, routing, and tracking transport vehicles.

  • Work with international carriers and freight forwarders to streamline the flow of goods across international borders and through customs

  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules and

  • Government regulations

  • Develop and implement profit improvement plans such as identification of opportunities for expanding transport operations.

  • In liaison with the General Manager, negotiate and authorize contracts related to transport operational needs.

  • Manage regulatory compliance procedures related to transport activities.

  • Develop key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the transport operations and provide weekly and monthly reports to the General Manager.

  • In liaison with the Safey department, conduct investigations to determine causes of transport accidents and improve safety procedures.

  • Manage investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints.

  • Responsible for coaching , training and managing the performance of transport department team.

  • In
    liaison with the General Manager and the Procurement Manager,negotiate with carriers, warehouse operators and insurance company representatives for services and preferential rates.

  • Prepare management recommendations, such as proposed fee and tariff increases or schedule changes.

  • Maintain open dialogue with other departmental managers to coordinate activities and improve performance and productivity

    Education, Professional Qualifications & Work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics/Supply Chain Management or Business related field from a recognized university.

  • Post graduate Diploma in Transport, Clearing & Forwarding.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ Transport Management experience at Management level is a must requirement.

  • Experience of Budgets and Financial controls.

  • Possess a good understanding of all relevant legal compliance and fleet controls.

  • Full understanding of transport operational systems, (Road Base).

  • Thorough knowledge of local & regional distribution Channels.

  • A thorough understanding of Customs Legislations and Tariffs, Imports/Exports documentation and procedures.

  • Have relevant experience about the market place with strong business development back ground.
